Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Let them eat cake

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 19 points 10 months ago (4 children)

I wonder if the GOP are going to use the snap funds as an attempt to win elections by blaming the Democrats.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 16 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I would say no one is that stupid but. you know. maga and all.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I mean, they're blaming the shut down on them. So I wouldn't be surprised.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 13 points 10 months ago

The party in charge of all three branches of government.

Granted, one of them isn't supposed to be partisan, but it certainly is.

Granted, one of them is the office of a president who once said "If there is a shutdown, I think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the president of the United States".

Granted, one of them is the only (legal, defined) pathway to fixing the other two. And they only have that because of a combination of Gerrymandering, campaigning on fear, voter suppression, and because we haven't changed the size of the house since The Reapportionment Act of 1929 (almost 100 years ago), when the population was literally 1/3 what it is today...greatly weakening how much representation people in densely populated states (which tend to align closer with Democratic ideals).

But yeah. It's the Dems fault.

[–] salacious_coaster@infosec.pub 11 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Well, yeah. These guys wake up blaming their grogginess on the Democrats. Stubbed toe; why would the Democrats do this?

[–] pleaseletmein@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The democrats moved my coffee table slightly to the left just so I’d trip.

[–] salacious_coaster@infosec.pub 5 points 10 months ago

The Democrats once peed my bed when I was 6

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago (4 children)

1600 rent. 1000 day care. 1500 car payments. 800 grocery. 200 gas (for cars). Bills 300.

My fiance and I make around 6k a month and it's not enough.

This is insanity even with snap.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 11 points 10 months ago (1 children)

How on earth is your car payment 1500??

[–] OptimusPrimeDownfall@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I'm betting it's two car payments because two busy people can't survive without their own car in the US.

[–] TriplePlaid@lemmy.zip 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Even with a car payment being $750/month, that's a pretty fancy car from my perspective - and represents the average car payment for a new car.

I think that these folks could keep up with expenses much more easily if a few minor compromises were made (namely, a cheaper car).

[–] mechoman444@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (6 children)

I drive 35 to 40k miles a year for my job. I only get new because I'd rather pay and have a driving car than pay and have one in the shop for the same price.

My car was 40 and full electric so I don't have to buy gas and my fiance's car was 25k. Those two car payments and and insurance we pay around 1500 a month.

But it's not the cars that's a problem. I choose that luxury. Be it for practicality or showing off. What I don't choose is to live ina 600 squarefoot Apartment for a thousand dollars more than it should be. Or daycare for 250 a WEEK!

Even if I lowered the price of the card for 500 a month, 800 a months it wouldn't help.

What is up with your car expenses. I literally don't know of anywhere a family of three could get a 1600 apt (I can't think of anywhere that gets you a 1bd), let alone anywhere day care is only 1k/mo, but you're spending 1500 on car payments?

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

They bought each other twin SUVs with bows on them for Christmas like in those commercials.

[–] balance8873@lemmy.myserv.one 2 points 10 months ago

Aww well that's worth it then

Panned? That's a new way of saying nothing happened

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 13 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Why not? They're apparently fine with kids getting shot.

[–] 1985MustangCobra@lemmy.ca 7 points 10 months ago (2 children)

America has been fine with kids being shot for decades.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

They LOWERED the age of gun ownership in Florida to 18, and they're shooting each other all over the place. Their aim isn't too good, either. They keep hitting innocent bystanders, but hey, that's the price you pay for the second amendment, right? Getting accidentally shot by some hood rat with a legal gun because DeSatan wants everyone to believe he's packing more than 3 inches in his pants.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (5 children)

Gun ownership age has been 18 since there was a gun ownership age.

21 only applies to handguns and certain specific other weapons like NFA items and unlassified "firearms" (guns that aren't classified as pistols, rifles or shotguns - mostly firearm receivers or a few weird stockless "shotguns" that don't actually fit the shotgun definition).

Add the Epstein Files today for 1 additional payment of CALL YOIR FUCKING GOP REPRESENTATIVE + shipping + handling. Find out how YOUR President has been fucking children.

[–] f1error@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The GQP doesn't give a fuck about kids; they only want to fuck kids. It's well past time for all republicans to face the consequences.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

As a way to control women they care that the kids are born. Then it's survival of the fittest until the strongest reach military age, then they are sent to kill brown people and secure oil and resources.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 10 months ago

There are more important things to spend money on, like a new ugly ballroom, or giving $40 billion to bail out Argentina -again, a fat settlement over the FBI investigating his criminal activities, bombs to blow up Venezuelan fishermen, renovations to his Qatari airplane bribe, the 30,000 inmate concentration camp being built in Guantanamo Bay (oh yeah, Google it), etc.

All this stuff costs massive amounts of money, and you'd rather spend it to feed poor kids? It's not like they are going to grow up to be rich and important, so who cares?

[–] greedytacothief@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 10 months ago

Pro life — until you're born of course, then you're on your own

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 5 points 10 months ago

I’m starting to think the guardians of pedophiles (gop) doesn’t care about the people within the borders of the US.

[–] rizzothesmall@sh.itjust.works 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

If they're out of bread, why don't they just eat cake?

~ Trump Probably

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago
