I put the Jerboa app icon where Baconreader had been on my phone. I kept opening it by reflex. This seems to be working.

This is the way.
Pretty much! I still haven't even deleted Boost, but the icon has been replaced and I've already all but forgotten about it.
Me too. Sorry Boost, I will miss you.
I deleted my account
Ive been here a few days the content is already a lot. Sub to communities. Start a community. Get to commenting, posting or even lurking! Be the change @havilland@lemmy.ml!
A simple low impact one I came up with is moving the Jerboa app icon to where the reddit one used to be and moving the reddit one to the end of the list, so my muscle memory reddit log on takes me here instead.
Literally did the same.
Once Apollo is gone for good, Iβll delete the app and thatβll be it. Reddit has too much useful info for me to block it entirely similar to Twitter. But also like Twitter, once the app is gone from my phone my usage pretty much drops to zero. Iβve already replaced Apollo with Mlem on my homepage, but Iβm leaving Apollo installed until the end.
Same. Keeping it installed until curtains, and will place Mlem in its place afterwards. Iβll use Reddit on desktop but only after I nuke my account.
Paused rif and moved Jerboa to the spot where it normally is on my launcher
I uninstalled RIF this morning. I saw when I rated it on the play store saying that I loved using the app for reddit that I had recently started using... September 2011... Geeeeez. The feels.
rif and Relay were the two I used depending on how I was feeling that day. Excellent apps. Paid for both and I'll be sad to see them go.
Agreed. RIF hands down and several times over was my most used app of all time. It will be missed.
I've set a privacy redirect from Reddit to https://libreddit.pufe.org. Now I can't log in, but if people send me links then I can see what they sent. If I want to comment on things, I'll come to Lemmy.
I logged in to Reddit this morning for perhaps the last time, to extract my list of subreddit subscriptions. While I was there I noticed I had a bunch of "Reddit Coins", didn't even know that was a thing. Missed opportunity for "Creddits" IMO.
Thanks for the reminder. I need to get my subscription list. I like the redirect idea too.
i use libredirect
I use libredirect's firefox extention
That's... why I'm here.
I uninstalled Sync for Reddit on my Android phone.
I'm going to backup the content I created over the years and fry my account in the afternoon.
Uninstalled Apollo (Christian plz forgive me). Deleted my account.
Don't worry, he feels just as bad as you for all of the evil Reddit has done to all of us.
I think they would understand
In /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 reddit.com
127.0.0.1 www.reddit.com
127.0.0.1 old.reddit.com
Make it the pornhub IP
The ol switcheroo
The fact that I'm digging lemmy is helping. Feels new and adventurous.
Easy, I just deleted my 10+ years Reddit account.
No regrets, and am now having fun exploring the fediverse.
I added reddit.com
to my uBlock Origin blocklist!
I uninstalled RIF tonight and keep finding myself searching for it on my home screen lol Will get used to it eventually I guess. I'm opening Jerboa every time I catch myself to retrain myself.
I deleted the app I was using to browse reddit (Infinity) and have blocked reddit.com system-wide on my computer. Admittedly this is a bit overkill for me but it's an easy solution.
Uninstalled Apollo and put Mlem in its spot
I'm not really concerned about avoiding it. Most of the subreddits with content I'd want to read are or will be closed. I only am using the old site, logged out, and with an adblocker. I'm a negative value visitor.
Lemmy seems to cover most of the content from larger subreddits. For the smaller, or more specific communities (such as local subreddits or those for hobbies/interests) they generally have a Discord server to join.
So between Lemmy and Discord, I've eliminated the need to use Reddit at all. This isn't without it's flaws or drawbacks, but it 'scratches the Reddit itch', I guess.
With most subs gone dark there's basically no content anyway. I'll probably keep checking until RiF stops working. I'm never going to use the official app or website.
I deleted Reddit from my phone, and the mobile site is shite, so I won't be going on there.
I occasionally look at old Reddit on my computer, but I just put Lemmy in it's place on my tab bar. Works great so far.
Kept a note at my home screen about Reddit Black Out. And logged out of Infinity. Now, everytime I unlock my phone, I see that note and open Lemmyπ₯
Put a 1 minute usage limit a day, this makes the icon greyed out and reminds me
I added an iOS shortcut automation to my iPhone. If I open Apollo, the shortcut runs and sends me to Mlem, then pops up a reminder.
Iβve exported my posts and comments. Just need to get my subscriptions list and Iβm done.
I plan to overwrite my comments and posts with a text that explains why the original is removed. That way, for as long as Reddit survives, thereβs a chance someone will see it and learn about how not to screw over your user base.
I'm just slowly lessening the amount I read there and try to read here instead
Made a redirect command in Redirector on Chrome, moved Relay off screen and set the Lemmy Chrome "app" where Relay used to be.
Got a slight headstart before the Blackout and Lemmy is already really growing on me
I just deleted/hid the Apollo app and put Mlem in the same spot in my app list. Now when my muscle memory goes to open up Reddit, Iβm on lemmy instead
I unsubscribed to every subreddit that didnβt acknowledged theyβd take part of the blackout yesterday. Iβve opened the app once today and was greeted with a βReddit is killing 3rd party apps (and itself)β post and got reminded to exit the app right away.
I installed a "focus" app on my phone. I set it to prevent launches of Boost (my third party app of choice) and the Reddit app (which I installed a while back and never bothered getting rid of) for the next two days.
When I try to launch either app, the focus app will tell me that I can't. I tested it this morning just to make sure it was working. Now, even if I try to visit Reddit out of force of habit, I'll have blocked myself from going there.
