The last media talking head to start speaking ill of Trump was Charlie Kirk if I'm not mistaken.

Like I'm not saying Tucker is going to have an assassination attempt but it sure would be convenient for that to happen so Trump could have a distraction from the Epstein stuff... Which coincidentally was also a big talking point right before Charlie Kirks assassination....

In a video with Ben Shapiro he questioned if the news we were hearing regarding Israel and Gaza could be trusted. Shapiro looked mortified that a fellow conservative would even entertain such a thought. It's been alluded that was the moment that Kirk sealed his fate.

[-] someguy3@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

Trusted? Kirk didn't question the war itself?

[-] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 21 points 9 months ago

He was calling for the release of the Epstein files, for one.

[-] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

He backed off very hard on this in line with a bunch of other conservative talking heads. This is from July:

"Plenty was said this last weekend at our event about Epstein. Honestly, I’m done talking about Epstein for the time being. I’m going to trust my friends in the administration, I’m going to trust my friends in the government to do what needs to be done, solve it, ball’s in their hands. I’m going to trust my friends Kash Patel, Dan Bongino, my friend Pam Bondi. All these guys. Ball’s in their court. I think that there was plenty of, let’s say, speeches that were directed towards this topic this last weekend. So we don’t need to spend our valuable time on this program relitigating it."

Emphasis mine because saying "balls in their hands" is hilarious to me.

...

It sure would be wild if I felt really conflicted right now. It is a good thing I don't Mr FBI Agent Reading This.

But a LOT of the right wing and even magat base are turning on trump by the day. He is actively killing the economy (so all their donors), once again has demonstrated he can't get anyone else elected, and actively hurt their careers by fucking up the shutdown so badly that even schumer can't take ALL the blame.

Combine that with his well documented health issues and the odds are good he doesn't survive until 2028... for multiple reasons (again, what up Mr FBI Agent Reading This?). So a LOT of chuds are trying to position themselves as his successor.

Btw I heard an idea that everyone is fighting for Charlie Kirk's followers: Carlson, Shapiro, Fuentes, etc. That's why there's so many weird interviews and headlines as they try to get the follower's attention. Kinda makes sense.

Did the demon that attacked him during the middle of the night tell him this?

[-] chaogomu@lemmy.world 28 points 9 months ago

Anyone who paid attention at the time could have told you that Crooks was a shitpost conservative who engaged in a shitpost shooting.

And yes, this was inconvenient for Trump, so the conservatives instantly stopped talking about it.

The only reason it's coming up again, is the Epstein emails that have recently come out. And the bombshells yet to come.

Old fucker Tucker here, is already on the outs with mainstream conservative groupthink. So is trying to position himself for a possible comeback. Not knowing that it will never work.

See, Tucker is a loser who was fired for costing Fox a shit ton of money. Conservatives care about that shit.

[-] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 5 points 9 months ago

Ahhh... that explains a lot.

Oh yeah, it's all comin' together.

[-] QuantumTickle@lemmy.zip 41 points 9 months ago

Tucker Carlson has no loyalty to America anymore. What loyalty he might have ever had is questionable.

He's here to hurl shit and he's looking for fans.

when did he ever have loyalty to America?

If this ends in Tucker Carlson running for president we're SO cooked.

He has the messaging skills and charisma that Trump never had (he was the most popular TV show host for a while), and he's been an ardent white supremacist for decades (vs Trump's half-assed self-interested bigotry). He could probably make white supremacy look like a sensible option to even the Trump-averse right-wing establishment types, and to the corporations and billionaires that hate Trump for what he's doing to the economy.

Recently I've seen him co-opting traditionally leftist concerns about housing and affordability, and unless the Dems do the unthinkable and actually field popular candidates, that's going to win over even MORE people than Trump ever could with his blatantly fake populism.

Add in the usual caveats about how things don't need to turn out this way, etc. I'm just scared.

[-] Dionysus@leminal.space 12 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Our only option will be nuclear.

Sigh

Ok boys, get the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert 2028 shit ready.

[-] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago

These late night hosts and their writing teams would, unironically, do a better job than the current administration.

[-] n0respect@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

I used to be against Stewart for President. Now? He's clearly intelligent enough, surrounds himself with the people he needs to research and get things done, puts all his energy into his work, and does it honorably. That's more than can be said for a lot of candidates.

Co-opting leftist talking points on a far right platform has worked very very well for Nigel Farage in the UK.

Tucker probably doesn't have the charisma or political skill of Nige, but he's got other things that might fill the gaps. I'm honestly terrified of them both.

[-] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

Knew the gloves would come off with the far right once the pant shitter was found out to have a penchant for kids who were still young enough to wear pull-ups.

Wait a second, did Tucker actually do a journalism this time? Or is this just a craven "see I go after both sides" play?

[-] killeronthecorner@lemmy.world 14 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I don't think he plays for either side. He's an opportunist who was spurned by one side. Now his opportunities lie elsewhere and he's exploiting them thoroughly.

If I had to guess, his hope is likely to do enough damage to become the better devil they know.

Everyone knows you can make more money from swindling the right than the left.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

He has a side, it's Vladimir Putin's side. His clips are aired regularly on Russian media, and he "interviewed" Putin in Moscow last year by tossing him a bunch of softball questions.

Well, yeah...

If the people in charge of security were honest, they'd be fired. Anyone that doesn't say what trump wants to hear get fired.

So when it comes to stuff like this, no real actions are taken to prevent it from happening again. Because you won't acknowledge why it happened.

As the right fractures more and more, this will keep happening. Maga has always been a loose coalition of different groups with different goals. And trumps not even trying to keep them all happy anymore. They all thought they'd be the priority, and now they're pissed and feel used.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 16 points 9 months ago

Well they did a really bad job, worst coverup I've ever seen.

[-] WhatGodIsMadeOf@feddit.org 15 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

The current fucking around that America is dealing with is probably FBI/CIA.... Like all of it... Them manipulating and using Epstein.... Trump... It seems like feds are throwing a coup.of America and using the right and left psychologically as a tool.

Americans can't save america by voting anymore. America is owned and compromised by a cancer of corruption from street gangs to intelligence agencies to military personnel.

Can someone explain to me why a trump backing radical would try to assassinate trump?

[-] NeptuneOrbit@lemmy.world 17 points 9 months ago
  1. the is the obvious assumption so perhaps it was an attempt at a false flag. Kill Trump, someone succeeds him, gains his supporters and the support of those who think the left did it.

  2. he supported Trump until.... Pick your poison. Epstein revelations. Some other policy position that he waffled on.

  3. so mentally ill he backed Trump but then did this in some sort of fugue state. "Trump has been replaced by aliens. If I shoot the guy pretending to be him the ruse will be over and I will have saved the country!"

Off the top of my head.

[-] lando55@lemmy.zip 11 points 9 months ago

I really tend not subscribe to conspiracy theories, but so much was weird about that assassination attempt that's so bizarre:

  1. Crooks was spotted by multiple law enforcement officers prior to the shooting and even had his picture taken in position several minutes before any shots were fired
  2. DJT was brought to his feet and escorted to safety arguably too quickly after the shooter was downed, before multiple shooters could be ruled out
  3. Photographers seemingly ushered into position by SS to capture DJT's triumphant fist pump when that was arguably of lower importance than securing the area
  4. But the real kicker for me is - DJT seems like the kind of guy that would never shut up about something like this, but I have only heard him mention it a couple of times. That also works against these theories though, because I'm sure it was traumatic and probably still haunts him.

Eh whatever. It's interesting to ponder, but there's not much that can't be explained by incompetence.

[-] unphazed@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

To me it's the lack of permanent damage, or any damage visible just a week later. Ears, especially old ears, do not heal back to normal usually. If you pierce an ear it's always going to have a dimple, even if closed up.

[-] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

WRT 3 don’t forget the US flag being lowered into shot on a crane as the photographers were being ushered in. I’m also not a conspiracy theorist, but either a lot of people did a lot of thinking really quickly, or there’s something fishy about it all.
