I recently got into the piracy community, and discovered a great open source app for Android that allows you to stream music for free from YouTube music! It's called ViMusic and it's one of the best free music apps imo. It has a beautiful and customizable interface and it actually has a music recommendation algorithm which is one of the main reasons people still pay for music subscriptions like Apple Music instead of pirating. This app has been really helpful to me and I hope that it can be to you too :)

There's also innertune (yt music, like vimusic) and xmanager (Spotify)

[–] ArtikBanana@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago

Just be aware that while xmanager itself is open source, the patched spotify apks it downloads and installs can be filled with obfuscated malware and you have no way of knowing.
The patches aren't open source.

Using it as well for 2 years I think! Great stuff

I second innertune, worked fine for 8 months. Last update (a week ago) introduced some annoying bugs though :(

I love ViMusic, it's helped me find a lot of music over thr time I've used it. Its reccomendations are quite good, and I can just donate to the artist if I like the music instead of trusting my streaming service to underpay them.

Yeah I've also found some really great songs through ViMusic

[–] Flagpole2465@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I just downloaded it and holy shit this app is pretty and works well.

I have used a pirated version of YouTube music; it seems this app offers just about the same but with a saner interface. YouTube music also has recommendations in a very similar fashion

I use a pirated version of Tidal on my phone, but ViMusic is great too.

For what? Tidal or ViMusic?

[–] Father_Redbeard@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

ViMusic is incredible. I'd drop Spotify premium in a heart beat if the rest of my family weren't on the same plan. Would be nice to save $15/mo

So, to use this, I download F-droid to my Android device and then download Vimusic?

[–] cutitdown@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

That works. F-Droid is an alternative to the Play store. You can also download the .apk directly instead if you prefer. Just scroll down to the versions and find the most recent.

[–] idk837384@thelemmy.club 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You don't need to download F-droid, you can just scroll down to the downloads section on that page. Also you can just find the ViMusic GitHub repo and download it from the releases there.

Do you need any help with fdroid ? did you do it ?

[–] Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

https://kbin.social/u/@Isotretinoin@lemmy.ml that was so kind to inquire. No, I haven't done it yet. I'm gathering info for when I bite the bullet and buy a laptop specifically for sailing the high seas. Right now I'm just streaming from YT with an ad blocker. I'll save your reply for the future in case I need to reach out for help. TY!

Both can be side loaded with esign

[–] neurohost@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 year ago

Also Try Ymusic

[–] CookieJarObserver@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I mean i just download stuff from YouTube...

[–] zxo@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

I do too, but I still listen to stuff on ViMusic because it makes reccomendations based on what you listen to, and I think they're better than normal YouTube reccomendations. If I find a song I like, then I just download it and listen to it.

[–] idk837384@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah downloading is also great, but this is good for people who just want a Spotify alternative or something and just want to stream rather than download.

[–] CookieJarObserver@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hm, im just from a country with problematic Internet coverage, so streaming is not that good.

The music won't start paying for me. Looks nice otherwise

[–] 00@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Had the same problem, for me it was related to TrackerControl blocking googlevideo(dot)com.
