The Unix Binary wants to be a Smalltalk Method, Not an Object (programmingmadecomplicated.wordpress.com)
submitted 8 months ago by yogthos@lemmy.ml to c/programming@lemmy.ml

tl;dr

  • Some people argue that a Unix "process" is spiritually closest to a Smalltalk "object" because it can receive signals and do some IPC or whatnot to parallel "messages"

This guy maps it as:

  • Unix "directory" = Smalltalk "object"
  • Unix "executable" (in a "directory") = Smalltalk "method"

a working example in his git repo: https://github.com/jdjakub/smalltix
