It is, but I think the writers don't quite understand the ramifications of what they've made canon.
Pretty much.
Seasons one and two suffered from such weird plotting and pacing.
Season one was originally written from the androids perspective without the involvement of Sir Patrick. The studio execs wanted a big name attached to the project, so they rewrote it to center around Picard. This pretty much ruined the story.
I'm gonna be honest, stop now. Picard is not a good show.
While I personally enjoyed the entire series, I would at least watch season 3 while skipping the first two.
I've been considering this approach. I know the plot of the first two but don't want to go through them based on what I've heard - I guess it will be fine to just jump into S3?
If you’re familiar with the plot of the first two, absolutely. There are some like Nepenthe I think you should watch, but it is fairly standalone.
Nice, I will try that approach then, thanks!
One of the difficulties of the making of season 2 was that it was happening at the same time as the making of season 3 so they couldn't really connect them that much... so you are fine skipping right to season 3 if you want
The only problem is that if you skip those 2 (though I admit that 1 is sort of okay at best and 2 is... pretty bad), a lot of the best stuff that happens in 3 is a lot to handle.
I'm very new to Lemmy and can't find a spoiler button so I'll be vague instead: there is a huge plot in season 3 for a beloved character, and if that had all happened in the first season, it wouldn't have felt earned.
I would never skip them myself, but I understand why someone might want to.

Testing a spoiler! It appears to be the ⚠️button, at least on the mobile webpage.
I believe we're in the same boat.
And tragically, on the Jerboa app, no such button, and your spoiler text is just showing as normal text. Growing pains!
is this still true even with s3? My friend has been trying to talk me into Picard for ages and they said s3 was good Star Trek.
@lwaxana_katana @StrangeWorrier
S03 is up there with the best of Trek. I liked 01 & 02 also, but that's me. They're hard to recommend. I absolutely recommend 03, and the other two seasons aren't prerequisites.
I agree, I also enjoyed S1&2 - each to their own really but S3 was by far the best.
Hrmmm interesting, ty!
Maybe I'm just a simple man, but season 1 was just kind of ok, season 2 I'm still not sure what happened, but season 3 really hit the spot for me.
Yeah this is how I feel. If you go in without expectations it's pretty enjoyable, I liked it for what it was.
I'm someone who hated season 1. Season 3 is worth the watch and feels like a great coda to TNG. It's almost like an extended reimagining of "All Good Things" which also ties up a few loose ends from the movies and dedicates more time to showing how the characters have grown as people and, in some cases, parents.
There are some moments where it feels like Discovery or prior Picard, but not enough to weigh down the show.
It's a hell of a lot better than the first two seasons, but that's not a super high bar. Season 2 is probably the worst, most baffling season of television I've ever watched. Season 3 at least mostly made sense and was reasonably entertaining most of the way through.
It's solid. It's a lot better than s1 or s2, and a better than any season of discovery. It's not as good as Strange New Worlds or Prodigy.
Nah, S3 is like a big long TNG movie and it is awesome
Eventually is turns into Picard again and has some inexplicable decisions and bad ideas.
Depends, did you like TNG the show, or TNG the movies? If you liked the movies, you'll probably like Picard S3.
I wanted it to be good, but the writers were all on crack or something.
Also why the fuck do I have to put a URL in order to post. This website is weird.

You do not
The field is always there, but you don't have to fill it. Unlike Reddit, there's no hard distinction between link posts and self posts; it's just a matter of which fields you fill.
I see other posts that are only text based and just have a title and text, though I haven't tried it yet myself.
