Here's a sourced article that actually shows the hands-on seeming plagiarism of AIs, how common it is, how the logical reasoning seems to be lacking, and so on. I thought perhaps people here would find it useful to convince friends that are misled by the AI craze.

Only note I have to add is that education was always fucked.

I'm guessing to most people here, there's little news. But I thought for whenever an AI fanboy comes around and is like "surely it doesn't plagiarize that often", it could be useful to have references to actual studies ready.

No I mean the way I use it is to essentially do that. Set the temperature really low and you can use it as a fancy bloom filter lol. I'm not a fanboy, I do think the tech is fascinating and has some real potential for useful tools if used as a carefully controlled component in things. But I do separate the tech and the implementation of the tech as products around us and as tools around us.

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
