Meanwhile, Chinese carmakers like BYD are selling decent salons & SUVs for $25,000 or less. With home charging costing ~0.25–0.30 kWh/mile, electricity ≈ $0.17/kWh, that means $0.04–$0.06 per mile. Gas at $3.10/gal costs twice that per mile.

The fossil fuel industry and legacy gas-car makers think they can string this out for years to come, but I wonder if it's the opposite. Affordability is the political buzzword of the mid-2020s, and gasoline is on the wrong side of it. Most people would have several thousand extra dollars in their pocket every year if they chose Chinese EVs.

Canada is only importing a few. I think 50k from what I remember.

It is not ONLY because itis done way too fast, but because it is done in a dictatorship way, verses giving people of The USA driving gas powered & not yet incentivized enough to buying & driving electric solar paneled automobiles &/or if physically possible use rider powered bicycles & public transportation (if necessary) real incentives to change (costs of everything involved in buying & driving electric solar paneled automobiles &/or if physically possible use rider powered bicycles & public transportation to well below gas powered pickups-SUVs & Etc.) to change & tax burdens from not changing NOW! Plus good enough infrastructure, NOW!
What The 'Crazy Don' & his administration will have achieved, in this framing of it, is to kill the election chances of other political Right politicians & hopefully make his people approval finally so weak that cannot get The USA Supreme Court to break the USA Constitution for him to run for President again. thus 1st. lose control of at least The House & maybe both chambers, & hopefully truly political Left parties & their politicians finally achieve majorities in both, before it is all too late & 2nd. retires The 'Crazy Don & His Administrations' political careers. Leading only to put them in UN prison some where, any where, they cannot be freed.
