I can understand doing this for Halo but doing this for such a story rich beloved franchise is wack.

The humans have been fighting and losing a war to an advanced alien religious conglomerate for over 20 years. The outter colonies are all gone, and the inner colonies are falling. Humanities only hope is super soldiers, secretly bred from kidnapped children.

Yeah. I don't see anything a non-gamer could be drawn in by. Good thing they mutilated it beyond all recognition. For the non-gamers. That watched in legions.

That’s too confusing, let’s rip off Romeo and Juliet and show master chief’s ass 4 times.

RIP.

But to be fair. I had zero hope for this and this news is not helping.

Optimists: So like Fallout?

Pessimists: So like Halo?

I was wrapping up my latest playthrough of Fallout New Vegas when I found out that they undid everything that happened in the game by blowing it all up. Fuck you Amazon Prime.

That does fit with the themes of the fallout franchise

You're not wrong, but still.

I can't wait to see my favorite people on youtube make fun of it and trash it for 45 minutes or so.

Amazon has done a pretty good job with Fallout in my opinion, so I'm hopeful that it doesn't turn Mass Effect into Paramounts version of Halo.

They have to balance the limitless time and nuance a video game has to draw in a player and the things a game can do that a TV series just can't. But as long as they can keep the core elements that made the game so popular and turn it into a 12 episode series, it might be great.

Halo (series) lost what made Halo great. Halo should have been about humanity losing a war to a more advanced alien species and a lone super soldier turns the tide. It should have been gritty, violent, bloody, making friends and losing them to war. It should have been Band of Brothers but on sci-fi steroids.

I didn't get very far into the Mass Effect games but I was thinking something like The Expanse meets Lord of the Rings. A hastely put together motley crew of aliens traveling the universe trying to figure out why these worlds are being attacked and finding a much larger universe ending mystery.

Amazon: "No one wants to hear about calibrations"

It's a bold strategy cotton, let's see if it pays off

Not sure anyone wants this, especially in the current political climate. Their best bet would be to set it in Andromeda. That way, they can appeal to the non-gamers as franchise faithful hated 4, and they won't be interfering with any established canon. I really just see them trying to make it an anti-woke answer to Star Trek. Still, it won't be my Mass Effect... but I might give it a chance. Really just want Mass Effect 5 at this point. But I'm going through the Dragon Age games to tide myself over (still in the first one) until I go back as MascShep and do a Renegade run, bang 3 different girls, and let people die in the suicide run by not doing their loyalty missions and picking poorly. Looking back, I think you can lose most of them and still have a viable run in 3 with the war effort.

what makes you think it's going to be anti-woke? Have you seen The Boys and Gen V? Those shows are way more woke than the superficial new Star Trek series.

I doubt any new mass effect game would be good. If you haven't seen the new expanse game coming out, check on that. That has me way more excited than anything EA would make.

I refuse to even look at the new Expanse game until I finish the series. Just started season 3. So not much longer now. I will absolutely check out the game once I'm caught up.

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 months ago

Dude. What's with the hat?

[–] Itsamelemmy@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 months ago

I just started season 4. From what I understand, the game takes place during the first 3 seasons.

So, like Fallout? That seemed to be a huge commercial success even if new episodes seemed quite rushed.
