That relief is pretty darn tiny too. I feel like I just have more anxiety about the other things my ED won’t let me do that I need to do.

And it's dwarfed by the self-hatred for taking so long to perform a basic task.

I don't feel relief. I feel shame.

I am just thinking "oh no.. I'll have to force myself to do this again soon."

My brain expanded ED the very wrong way at first and I was… bemused? Confuddled?

Have you tried micro transactions in EA games? I heard that it grants a sense of both pride and accomplishment.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 months ago

I think that only applies to star wars

I wouldn't say tha there is even sense if relief. Theres just disappointment due to lacking sense of accomplishment or any great/good feelings regarding it and after that brain automatically starts to pick apart why it actually wasn't an accomplishment and what i did wrong with it.

Wait, you guys get relief? All I get is guilt that it wasn't done within a reasonable timeframe or amount of effort in the first place...

Don't worry eventually the things you remember you'd forgotten will pile up and the relief will disappear too

I hate how trying to explain this to neurotypicals makes me seem 'pessimistic' or 'contrarian'.

I'll get asked "Don't you feel better now that this task is done?" and my honest answer is "No." As frustrating as that might be to hear, imagine how frustrating that is to experience.

"Done! Time to start worrying about something else ..."

Me yesterday. We hatched 24 chicks last week and they were ready to outside into the brooder pen inside our coop. But we had to still clean it, change the shavings, get feed/water ready, rig up something for the heat lamp, make a latch for the lid to hook onto so we don't have to hold it up... A bunch of stuff.

Banged it out yesterday. Chicks are doing well in their new home. And all I find is relief that I got it done. Just a "thank fuck" kind of feeling.
