Sadly... Not really. In many ways I'd review it the about the same as the Super Mario Galaxy movie. Lots of fun scenes, never boring, but with a weak story. It's close to being an excellent film. Cutting a few unnecessary scenes and/or adding 30 minutes of runtime, it would work so much better. Some scene transitions let me confused, and I could make the next scene work, but I shouldn't have to fill in so many gaps.
I still enjoyed watching it, but apart from people who were already going to watch it I don't see word of mouth getting more viewers.
The reviews are probably a little harsh, but they're mostly right on the money. It's just an OK film.
The highlights: the Argo City sequence was excellent. I would have been happy spending more time there and learning more about Krypton, Argo City and the relationships between the SuperParents.
The lived in world/universe. We got lots of fun locations, aliens, & establishments.
The action sequences throughout the film were also stellar.
The lowlights: let's start with the big one, the ending. Why can't Ruthye kill Krem, but Kara can? Both have lost everything. Obviously Kara probably has killed people before (as well as a handful during the film, although it's all implied), but we never see her carry the weight of having done so. We needed a sequence where Kara gets some level of revenge but it doesn't help her pain.
What was up with the brother at the begining? He wore headphones and jumped to surprise his sister somehow missing murderers were in the house? And then everyone gets killed? Ruthye just stands there frozen. She should have at least been the "cause" of her parents death.
Ruthye was too weak at some times, but too strong in others (like the guard escape). Ruthye is left behind with Krypto, we see Kara get on the bus alone, later on Ruthye is also on the bus. Ruthye is left behind on crime planet, Kara goes with the bad guys, Ruthye snuck on the ship and saves Kara, kinda. I would have liked to see her training with her parents with weapons in a self defense capacity.
Lobo was cool, but he didn't really have a story. Also he was in the bar when Kara beat everyone up, but then just sorta feel for the ditzy Kara ruse. I think we should have had Lobo more annoyed by Kara/Ruthye and grow to like them. The Ruthye/Lobo jail scene kinda hinted at this, but we needed more.
And of course Krem. He was a weak (story wise) villain. I liked him generally being a low stake villain, just the leader of a gang causing crime and killing people, that worked. But he didn't have any interesting character. Lobo was after one of his minions. So Krem was a secondary villain to his minions?
Overall it wasn't a boring film. I liked the scenes that I saw, but I was often confused and or underwhelmed by the story.
