For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

She donated several million to my alma mater for it allowing people to have upward mobility. In their world poor people having better lives is a bad thing…

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 45 points 1 month ago

Why would Elon Musk think that?

Oh, that's why.

This stock photo upsets me. It's not AI because AI would be wrong and terrible in excitingly DIFFERENT ways.

American currency is simply not printed that way.

The serial numbers are applied in a separate pass, after printing is completed. And they won't all be the same.

The notes are printed in sheets with a flat plate, not a newspaper-style continuous roll.

Come on. Thry literally do public tours where you can see the process. It's free. Send someone down with a Nikon if you have to. There's no reason to be this wrong on something this trivial.

However, you can buy full sheets of currency (edit: from the bureau of printing and engraving) that are for novelty purposes and the way they get around it is all of the serial numbers are the same. So they do actually print full sheets where all the serial numbers are the same. The only reason I know that is my grandfather had one. Supposedly the reason was if you happen to cut it yourself you "could only use one of them".

The numbers are different but in obvious reserved ranges so people can't cut them apart and sell them as a premium as a cutting error.

I have such a sheet on my wall.

Musk could octuple her donations and still be one of the richest people alive, but he'd rather bitch.

[–] NottaLottaOcelot@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Do we want him donating money to causes he thinks would make the world a better place?

I can’t even imagine what he would pick? Raze the rainforest? Bolivian coup? Brain implants for people with skin colour darker than a crème caramel?

[–] optimisticturtle@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

He gives to far right white nationalist movements globally, so he'd just be doing a lot more of that.

Is "(High IQ)" some kind of surname, or is it like his Mad Max dystopian nom de guerre?

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 20 points 1 month ago

I think it's an ironic nickname, like when you call a bald guy "Curly".

[–] hypeerror@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Don't they prohibit you from being a police officer if you score too high on the aptitude test?

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 3 points 1 month ago

Yes, at least in America.

Which is why, we all agreed to pay taxes instead lof etting individuals decide what to spend the money on.

And then have elections, fair ones. To choose the people making the decisions about what to pay and what not to.

(high IQ)

I always say if you have to constantly tell people...

"I'm actually really smart".

"I'm actually a good person".

"I'm actually not racist/sexist/bigoted".

Then it must be because you know others see the opposite.

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Turn it around: "For a Twitter poster, you're actually really smart!"

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We all know that he is crazy and there is much better proof of that than "sadly, yes".

I'm much more interested in that number, is it really true? And more info about who she donated to. According to Fortune:

MacKenzie Scott is using her $26 billion philanthropy push to rescue organizations in danger after the Trump administration’s funding cuts

Of course she's using her own organization and saves a lot on taxes, but still, good on her. Divorcing that alien & using his ill-gotten money to do some good.

[–] optimisticturtle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

She's a billionaire I'm okay with skimping on taxes tbh. Looks like she'll donate what Uncle Sam isn't confiscating to bomb schoolgirls.

[–] SparroHawc@piefed.world 8 points 1 month ago

Wow.

What an asshole.

[–] Sprocketfree@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

Why does this make more news then the actual donations?

[–] HAL_9_TRILLION@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What's their actual outlook on this, are they saying that charity causes dependence or what the fuck is it - I'm guessing this is the natural endpoint of the Ayn Rand "virtue of selfishness" bullshit that these predators are using to sound like members of a rigorous scientific libertarian intelligentsia instead of just run of the mill filthy-rich dipshits.

[–] OrganicMustard@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

The rich are trying to get the rest under the poverty line so we are all good obedient slaves. This goes against it.

[–] Teratologique@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago

"Broooo, I hate when other rich people make me look bad! Why can't she spend her wealth on space travel or something, like me?"

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

This guy may be one of the worst people to ever exist on this planet...

Before you dismiss this notion, imagine what a trillion dollars could do for the world.

It's like if you put 10 people in a room, but only one person gets a snack. Except he actually was given a thousand snacks. And everyone else is in that room is in the early stages of starvation.

And that guy isn't sharing, even though he is only going to be in that room for a week at most. No, he wants all the food. He doesn't care that the other nine people soon will be dead.
