There are probably more incidents of theft that have been reported to the police but not publicly known. And although the value of the stolen goods could be staggering for the average person, companies and freighters often have insurance coverage, so they don’t have to worry about paying out of pocket for the entire loss.
Until the insurers realise that your shipments of RAM are so expensive you need an armoured truck and police escort. The police escort will be paid with your tax money.
Meh, if they want to waste money on glorified 'special op' rentacops that's there prerogative. I doubt it will stop the thefts tho. Ambushers don't care when they hold all the cards while your stuck in an armored car (tomb)

There have been some really dramatic things done in the past couple of years that weren't mentioned in the media. We all know about Brian Thompson meeting one of the Mario Bros, but you dont hear about what happened to Wesley Leplatner. We heard about the TP warehouse ("all you had to do is pay us enough to live) but you haven't heard about any of the others.
The pattern seems to be: Thing happens to rich person/big company. Thing is mentioned on the news. The public reacts the "wrong" way. Then the media doesn't mention all the other times it happens.
Yup, at least this time the rich were smart enough to know not to point out how vulnerable there inventory sec is so more people don't get ideas this time round.
I have wasted a significant portion of my adult life in warehouses. Most of them have very little security, sometimes physical barriers, but nothing that can't be defeated.

It’s funny cause by their nature, they would only want to build these things, which are filled with valuable equipment, in poor neighbourhoods.
It’s why they haven’t resorted to building them in third world countries.

Only problem is that these assets aren't really useful to a lot of people unless they happen to have a data center in which to run them. You could put a rack in your garage and run a little, but as you might have heard, these bastards eat a LOT of power. Most homes don't have the capacity for this, even most businesses would be pushing it.
I mean if they wanted to hurt the businesses who are buying it, they'd just have to throw the equipment in a pool or something.

Nah, unless you have examples I don't really buy that. you definitely could make use of most of it with a minimal amount of resourcefulness.
I think everyone understands these are specialized components, but even a slightly above average homelabber would go to town on it.
