I added Reddit to my age verification bypass extension!

Age verification is everywhete, so I'm making an add-on for #firefox to bypass age verification on many platforms!

https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/age-verification-bypass/ , source code at https://github.com/helloyanis/age-verification-bypass

I just added Reddit to the list of supported sites! It can now automatically remove the NSFW log-in popup when viewing NSFW subreddits. (Yes I know we have Lemmy on the fediverse, but I think it can still be useful!)

If you don't have Firefox, or want a more private experience, you can also use a front-end like redlib at https://redlib.catsarch.com/ to avoid communicating with Reddit entirely, and you don't even need my extension on that one!

(Video shows off the concept but doesn't show any actual nsfw contents)

That’s quite a fitting subreddit for demonstration

@guynamedzero I mean, there are so many NSFW subreddit, let's at least show it off on a fun one! 😄

Not all heroes wear pants

Nice! I might have done something wrong though, as it doesn't seem to work on android. I was able to install the extension, but was still locked out by reddit.

Just go to old.reddit.com

It works fine.

[–] helloyanis@furries.club 8 points 1 month ago

@stoy @UnfairUtan Yeah, that works too! Or redlib. I'm just trying to make it easier for the people who prefer the current interface and don't want to relearn everything

Yeah, I saw that... ):

Very plausible that stops working in the future though so it's good that people are getting ahead of things with more solutions

[–] helloyanis@furries.club 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

@UnfairUtan Huh! That is strange, for me it works!

Are you sure you have enabled the extension and allowed it to run in private windows if you use these? Is it version 1.0.3?

Screen recording of the add-on on Android succesfully blocking the popup

As it's also not working for me on Android I've taken the following screenshots in case they help. I used the same subreddit as your testing, just to be sure.

[–] helloyanis@furries.club 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

@BaroqueLobster Can you please try :
- Update the extension to the latest version 1.0.5 (or uninstall and reinstall)
- Refresh the page

There seems to have been an issue when you didn't navigate directly to the page from the URL bar but from elsewhere on Reddit. This should be fixed in the latest version.

[–] BaroqueLobster@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I hate to be that guy but it still doesn't work - same results as my previous screenshots. I reinstalled the extension and restarted the browser but there's no change. I have been testing this by directly accessing the subreddit via the URL, hand typed into the address bar - not via links from somewhere else on Reddit or the wider internet.

[–] helloyanis@furries.club 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

@BaroqueLobster I see that the popup says "View in app" while the one I block says "Log in", can you log out and try again?

I'm not logged in, I don't have an account so there's no way anything could be cached either. It also does the same thing in a fresh private session. If I switch the page to desktop mode using the regular button in Firefox, I get the following:

It also isn't working for me on Android. Version is 1.0.3, freshly downloaded just now.

Download this now cause this is DEFINITELY getting pulled once shit hole red states say that this allows to "run afoul of state laws"

[–] helloyanis@furries.club 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

@DoucheBagMcSwag If one day I'm gone at least you know why!

But I'll always be back! 😉

Reddit keeps shadow-banning users when use vpn. so I stopped using it

[–] plant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

...reddit, right?

[–] Hxrmit@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Will the extension also come to ungoogled chromium?

[–] helloyanis@furries.club 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Hxrmit@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Guess I gotta move to librewolf or something

[–] helloyanis@furries.club 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

@Hxrmit That will also get you a better uBlock origin, as these changes also affect that extension! On chrome you only have uBlock Origin Lite, but on Firefox you can add your own filters, block cookie banners and social media widgets, and update the blocklist without updating the extension which isn't doable on Chrome / Chromium!

[–] Hxrmit@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Thank you, I suspected that. Only had degoogled chrome since I did a lot of web flashing and heard its easier on resources than chrome and Firefox. I'll consider it

[–] helloyanis@furries.club 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

@Hxrmit Actually, Firefox recently added support for the Serial API, so web flashing should work on Firefox too!
