Absolute clinic by Spain. First shot on target for France was in the 81st minute. That's insane.

Called it!

Seemed like people thought this game was a foregone conclusion. France arguably played the prettiest football of the tournament, but I had a feeling they'd stumble when coming up against one of the other behemoths of world football.

Eh, I think “prettiest” is a bit of an overstatement anyway. They scored more goals than anyone but Argentina, but they relied almost exclusively on individual talent and counterattacks for that. On the other hand, their midfield is incoherent and doesn’t seem able to keep possession of the ball, even less defend. Hoping for a better coach to come in and build a better team.

I would argue that Deschamp is the best French coach ever and that this is the best team France will ever have. They could adapt their game to their opponent, master pressure and release, keep a cool head and play together. Their best football was simply no match to Spain's and I don't see any team beating Spain at the moment.

Oh, the possibility that Trump has to hand the trophy to Spain becomes more and more possible. That would be so horrible for him... Go Spain!
