So how would a refrigerator go about defrosting itself while still keeping contents frozen?

Little heater element wrapped around the refrigeration coils, on a timer.Fridge turns off, element turns on just briefly, melts ice only in its immediate area.water drains out into drain pan in bottom of fridge and the condenser fan evaporates it.

This is the 21st century and this process still goes wrong,as I'm dealing with it now.
