You fell into one of the classic blunders. The most famous of which is 'never get involved in a land war in the Gamma Quadrant,' but only slight less well-known is this: 'never go in against a Ferengi when profit is on the line!'

"Knowledge" in Ferenginar depends upon one's POV.

Hoo-mons don't use money. Makes them great for cheap labor.

Perfectly in character for Zek, too.

I can hear this image.

Hey can you ferengi fans help me with something cause I don't want to watch every ds9 episode to find it (I just did like 2 months ago).

There is a ferengi episode where Quark walks into a room/house/place and he deposits coins in a big gold head of the magus (I think it's the magus).

I know it's custom to pay when entering places in ferengi world. But specifically I'm looking for the episode with the big head.

I want to 3d design a replica and make it a piggy bank. I'm pretty sure Quark put the coins in the ears.

So it's a good design for a piggy bank.

I just need to find it so I can make sure I get the basic details right.

I think it's Season 3 Episode 23 "Family Business", where quark goes back to Ferenginar to get his mother out of trouble.

I'll check this

DS9 s7e12 "The Emperor's New Cloak"

Oh that's it. Yes. Thank you !

Those pics actually have enough info for me to make the model.

Now I'll have to decide if I want to add that base or not. Maybe a smaller version of it with the same basic geometry would look good.

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

You got it. Was fairly certain the camera panned around enough during that scene to get a good look. Please share your results with us!

I would start with Ferengi Love Songs season 5 episode 20, Act 4-5 with the Tower of Commerce on Ferenginar. Maybe someone can offer a correction or narrow that down further.

Thanks I'll check this

This may screw up your enthusiasm to make a replica from scratch, but they used a real Ferengi coin bank which was sold back then as that prop (repainted of course.)

I remember because I had that bank as a kid, and when this episode went out I was pretty jazzed to see that they turned my toy into a screen-used thing.

[-] daannii@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah I saw one of those on eBay. But I think the one from the show is more interesting. Plus the licensed one doesn't have slots in the ears.

[-] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

The one from the show is the licensed one, they just took one off the shelf and modified it. If you are looking to replicate the prop you have the choice to do so from scratch, or get hold of the same bank and make the mods to it they did.

There are a few 3d models for the magus staff head floating around. I'll probably start with one of those and resculpt it a bit. Hollow it out. Mount shoulders to it and a base.

It's definitely going to be a little work but do-able.

I just really really want a piggy bank one like from the episode.
