I can see it being “The age of super heroes over, welcome to the age of mutants”. X-Men alone has enough characters to keep different themes of movies going for a decade.
As for Spider-Man I really hope they let Tom Holland age up and not rush into Miles. Peter still has a good two more movies after this that could still work. I hope his storyline ends in a Sinister Six Movie.
Trilogy of trilogies for Tom Holland please. Introduce Miles in the 7th or 8th movie, have them work together in the 9th, call the tenth Spider-Men where Peter dies and Miles takes over. Then give Miles a trilogy of trilogies.
He’s running out of big Villains, which is the problem. We’ve already seen like 13. The fact that he even has 13 is crazy. The assumption is Mr Negative, Hammerhead, or Tombstone will be the villain of this new movie
Most of Toby and Andrew’s villains were used last movie, so the options left are

- Carnage (reintroduced)
6 - Sinister Six

The Sony movies don’t take place in the MCU. They can re-do those villains. In fact, there’s a piece of the symbiote in the MCU, which will probably lead to black Spider-Man and a different Venom
They can, but the roles of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus were done so well that they likely won’t redo those. By the same token I doubt they will do the others. The reason they didn’t include venom is because they do want to redo that character. I believe Tom Hardy was going to be in earlier versions of No Way Home, but they reduced it to a post credit to get the symbiote in at least.
Bringing in the XMen universe opens things up so wide. Post Secret Wars it makes sense to start focus on the XMen because the next big phase could very easily build to AvX.
Why studios continue to think that creating live action versions of animated films is a good idea it's beyond me. They still think that animation is only for children instead of just a film medium.
Is it even still more expensive to do animation? Like, you used to need a shitton of animators to do things; now computers and digital art tools make it easier for much smaller teams and you obviously don't need sets or permission to film on location. I'd have thought it's gotten cheaper than live action productions by now.
Makes sense, and both an X-Men push and Miles Morales were inevitable.
X-Men were getting soon, which is to say they've already danced around it in the current MCU, and we're closing the story of Fox universe X-Men with Doomsday/Secret Wars, giving a huge opening for future X-Men.
The Spider-Verse films wrap up next year, but I'm sure we'll get a spinoff of that at some point.
I don't know where the Tom Holland story goes, but handing it off to Miles Morales at some point makes sense.
As a father of a daughter who loves spiderman. I want her to see spider Gwen on the big screen while she's still young, 12.
The spiderverse movies are our favorite to watch together. But weve watched all the movies together and have our tickets for next Friday. With miles we most likely will see Gwen but I want my daughter to be able to see her as the lead.
I think Spider-Gwen is the top rumored Spider-Verse spinoff film, so I would bet that'll happen.
As for live action, sadly women-led superhero films have a rough track record. Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman being the most successful, but having rough sequels. Supergirl has it's problems, but I think it mostly works (although it really had potential to be better).
We're also probably going to get a bunch of X-Men films over the next few years, so maybe a Jubilee movie or something.
I do think we'll get live action Spider-Gwen eventually... But it'll probably be a while.
Are they planning to release a good one this year?
Actually, yes.
which one(s)? I am a big Marvel fan and not tired of super hero movies but since Avengers Endgame, they have not put out anything at that level
As someone commented, I have hope in Doomsday as well. I also am hopeful the new Spiderman is at least fun. I am really not that critical as others seem to be about this stuff and enjoyed the shows as well. Daredevil season 2 was good even though the 1st season was definetely better. The bigger shocker, which I fully expexted to hate, was Wonder Man which was really good although idk how much it has anything to do with the universe at all and is probably a stand alone. Either way it's fine and felt refreshing.
Doomsday comes out in December. This is the one they're betting on turning everything around.
The ones planned for this year are Spider-Man Brand New Day in August then Avengers Doomsday for December.
I thought this Spider-Man was no longer a joint venture between Marvel and Sony as the contract ended with the last; but I guess they renewed it?
I knew about Doomsday but I am skeptical about that one. For starters, while I love RDJ and what he did as IronMan, I feel bringing him back again is a mistake. They are doing the American thing, milk it until everyone hates it
The second issue I have with Doomsday is that, for the first Avengers movies there was an amazing build up. By the time the Avengers movies came out we already knew and loved the characters so we could understand intuitively the challenge, their capabilities, their shortcomings, etc.
For this one though, I don't even know who the current Avengers are.
Of course, none of that means Doomsday will be a bad movie (and I really hope it is not); however, Disney has a solid track record of destroying IPs they buy so I am concerned
They're still playing coy on how much of RDJ we'll see, everyone is convinced they'll play hard on the "why do you look like our dear dead buddy" drama.
For the cast, it's very heavily a send-off for the old Marvel movies, Sony's old X-Men and Spider-Man (and pretending that the new F4 replace the old F4), that's the Avengers you may want to see it for - the ones that never made an Avengers team.
For the modern teams, there's the Black Panther cast, and the Thunderbolts / New Avengerz are great, they were worth their movie and they should be fine here - although they'll probably be a bit of a filler and red shirt thing, they'll probably be among the first be killed off to show you how serious this is... Bet low on time to death for Ghost, for one.
