Sadly that's the issue with automoderators. Our own threativore has built-in functionality where you can PM it directly with the moderation-action code and the admins get a notification to reverse easily.
Ye Power Trippin' Bastards
This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
- Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.
Relevant comms
Honestly at this point it's looking nothing like automod and entirely like a surreptitious attempt to control the damned fediverse
Edit: nailed it.
Badmiral is mad they got caught. What a snowflake.
If this pisses you off because I took your toy away, if this triggers you because, god forbid, people just have to hear the violent crazies no matter what, fine, I don’t care.
Always, always, always, projection with these people
The fact this twat can't even conceive of user agency wrt blocklists...
Yeah because everyone else is stupid but me
I was 13 and a prick once, I guess I get it
our team also gets notified about automod actions, but sometimes there is nobody available to deal with it immediately. we typically undo false-positives within an hour, and for most users it doesn't have to be requested, as it's obvious from context when it's legitimate content.
Your mod team is also notified when JordanLund acts like the ZioNazi he is, and you don't do anything about it. So you're aware of problems and continue to do nothing about them.
That tracks for axis.world
Hm, if you have to review all auto-mod actions, I can imagine that at some point people will stop paying attention. I find it better to be notified only when you have to do something (such as with an appeal request)
we currently don't have that many automod actions that it would be problematic. often we don't even have a single one in a day. the notifications also include additional information about the user and reason to help with the review.
I went to take a look at the modlog you linked and they unbanned you twenty minutes ago, so apparently someone did "wake up."
Agreed that regex isn't the way to go, though.
Yeah, i sent them an email this morning, luckly they answered me quickly and unbanned me

lol just stay away from world, its a shitshow over there.
Well shit, we already started a micromobility community over there. What's the deal with .world exactly?
Today?
Zionists turbolibs decided to patch a stealth update into a lemmy front end that one of them makes, that bans a whole bunch of leftist instances and users... along with a bunch of blahaj, because fuck them queers too, I guess?
db0 essentially discovered it during updating to a new lemmy version, this has led to much popcorn, very alot of salt.
But that was done by the dev of Tesseract, not by the people running Lemmy.world
The dev of Tesseract is part of the .world mod/admin team.
EDIT: Ironically, just like you.
Check the original link on the origin instance before assuming people are admins or team members. They have a badge when they're admins.
I don't think that's correct. One of the lw mods reported this as misinfo.
The dev of Tesseract is part of the .world mod/admin team.
EDIT: Ironically, just like you.
What do you mean? I'm not part of the .world team, I only mod a few communities that are on there.
It’s the “Reddit” of Lemmy.
I once got one for linking to a domain commonly used by spammers. I forget the context of why exactly, but it got reversed pretty quick without a big fuss. Given the volume there compared to others some type of automation would be needed without paid mods on staff.
The problem is that they ban you for something you wrote on another instance! The comment was on a lemmy.ml community on my feddit.it account, that's something they shouldn't even care about to begin with!
And still, the automation is just some bot that check for a regex so it's not that great either...
would you prefer an All feed on your instance that is filled with advertisements? of course we care about content that is posted to other instances in certain categories, like spam or illegal material.
You do you ig, i don't agree with that way (Thx for the unban btw)
I know they have unbanned you by now, but hopefully the experience has made you realize that you would be happier on a different instance. Join us! :)
I never used .world to begin with :P
The ban was made even though my main account is on feddit.it and the post was on the Lemmy community in the lemmy.ml instance, crazy thing .-.
Oh! You explained that I overlooked. Totally on me! lol
