I cannot wait for Linux on Mobile to be a viable replacement. This week's announcement about a gps nav app coming is a big step in the right direction.
I'm sure this is completely unrelated to android's recent decision to require all app developers to register with google, even if they aren't distributing apps through the google play store: https://keepandroidopen.org/
Shizuku was how I was thinking of bypassing this for now, taking advantage of the local ADB connection and then using that to install apps instead of the normal package installation flow. But it looks like they want to take that away too.

I think a change like this could benefit Google as it goes well along their new Sideloading changes, but I do not actively believe this is what is going on here. There is a true, valid reason behind this, and I think two different approach can be taken. We will talk about it in this blog post.
I've had an android phone since the iPhone 4 came out, but I'm done, I hate the iPhone ui but my wife has one and it will make something's easier. I'd rock a Linux phone if I could use my work apps on it(it's not a work requirement, but saves me from logging into another computer to check email and do my timesheet)
just have two phones. it helps keep a work/life balance. when you're done for the day, phone goes in the bag/on the desk until next day.
if work needs me they have my personal number as a last resort.
sure, it's convenient to schedule my life around work but notice something wrong with the direction? should be scheduling work around life.
I don't get bugged outside of work hours I just don't want to switch computers all day.

No shock here at all... This is why we need affordable Linux phones. There is a nonzero chance that my next phone could be a basic dumb phone that I do nothing with but the bare basics.

Called it. Removing the ability for a device to connect to its own debug bridge was the obvious step after crippling sideloading.
My bingo card also includes:

If android is truly getting locked down, I'll just get the cheapest smartphone I can get because everything here in my country needs their own smartphone app for their own 2FA and they all want Play Integrity. It's getting really annoying to bypass all these asinine roadblocks on my fucking phone.
Banks and online shopping apps can get bent policing my phone.
And I'll just carry a small Linux laptop to do all my other internet and computing needs. Shit's fucked up. And carry a Faraday bag just for the phone.
That's basically where I'm at too. Honestly they might be doing me a favor by getting me off the internet so much lol.
Hey Android, why not make the unlock screen cost money too! Do everything you can to kill your platform!
If google decides to truly go full-on walled garden, I'm probably going to jump to apple. I have been an android diehard for over a decade because the platform was open for however I wanted to use it. If they're going to dictate what I can and cannot do, then I have minimal reason to continue choosing android, at which point I'd rather opt for the more polished experience.
tbh if i can pay to unlock i might be satisfied.. currently most devices cant be unlocked at all. in fact i don't think theres any android phone officially released/sold where i live that can be unlocked.
I think you're thinking of rooted, or sim unlocked. I was joking about the device wake up screen/method.
