So, a YouTuber by the name of Alex Meyers, who's known for comedic movie reactions and commentary, usually reacts to bad movies from the 2000s, kids' movies, or older CW shows in an animated, comedic style. He recently decided to review Obsession and got a lot of backlash for it. He defended Bear up until he sexually assaulted Nikki, but he left that part out of his review. He also sexualized Nikki, calling her "Crystal Mommy" and making similar comments. He later uploaded an apology, but then deleted both the review and the apology.
This happened about a month ago. At the time, he had around 4.06 million subscribers. Now he has about 4 million, meaning he has lost roughly 60,000 subscribers. There are also around 22 YouTube videos about the controversy—I counted.
Did I like his video? No. Alex took a huge L with this movie. I don't understand why he spent 22 minutes defending Bear. He's the villain. Obsession is only 1 hour and 48 minutes long, and it's obvious Bear is the villain well before the ending.
As for the reaction surrounding Alex's video, back when he was first starting out, he made serious video essays. Around nine years ago, one of his most popular videos was a serious analysis of 13 Reasons Why. He made a few videos in that style before his Riverdale video, which was the first one where he used animation and shifted toward the funny, comedic commentary style he is now known for. Since then, his channel has mainly focused on comedic reactions and commentary.
With all that being said, I think it's best to just ignore him now. He recently uploaded a new video, and people who dislike him immediately watched it and flooded the comments. Why? You realize YouTubers make money from ad views regardless of whether the comments are positive or negative, right? If you don't like him, don't give him the view.
I think this situation is becoming overblown. Even if you believe Alex is misogynistic, just ignore him. Don't engage with him and don't give him money. At this point, the people who keep engaging with the drama are also benefiting from it. The YouTubers making response videos are getting views, clout, and ad revenue, so at least they're gaining something from continuing the discussion. Regular viewers, on the other hand, aren't.
What do people want at this point? He made a bad video. Move on. The people who keep talking about this just seem to want drama for the sake of drama. Continuing to bring it up is unnecessary, and in the end, it's only going to give Alex more views and more money anyway. If you don't want to support him, unsubscribe, ignore his content, and move on.
