This made me realize a common trait with members of this administration: their mothers or other immediate family members being disappointed and embarrassed by them. Trump, Hegseth, Miller, to name just three.

Not a big surprise considering how awful so many people in this administration are s human beings. But still... It makes me wonder how insecure and resentful they must be about being rejected by their birth families. Lots of mommy and daddy issues. And the world is feeling the brunt of that.

imagine the world today if all these fail-sons had just gone to therapy instead of going into politics?

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 31 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I am more puzzled by the fact that these kind of people are admired by a significant chunk of the American population

[–] TimboSlice@discuss.online 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They're the same type of people.

[–] cuerdo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No! This is the almighty media, I keep seeing how the lay man is blamed, these idols are built by Fox, Twitter and Facebook

100 of millions of people have not read this email, you are privileged because you have more access to information

People know that he has a strong yawline and that Obama wore a tan suit, the media is the enemy!!!

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

The people who own the media are the enemy. No war but the class war.

They have familial issues because they disgusting people.

I have familial issues because my parents are disgusting people.

We are not the same.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Trump's father is pretty disgusting. Musk's as well.

[–] TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Trump's niece Mary is actually a democrat, and very left leaning one at that. She is absolutely DISGUSTED with him. She even wrote a book about how her family dynamic created him.

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

A good book to read.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, and it sounds like she had a relatively decent immediate family experience (excluding the fact that her grandfather was a scumbag and she says her Uncle Donald lusted after her when she was younger).

I believe she's also pretty well respected in the psychology field. She seems like a reasonable and normal person. The fact that her hatred of her uncle really gets under his skin makes me think maybe the lack of approval issues that burden Donnie aren't limited to mommy/daddy rejection.

I believe she’s also pretty well respected in the psychology field.

that tends to happen when you have a PhD. Her brother Fred Trump III, also destests His uncle. btw. That whole branch of the family turned out ok, surprisingly. Kind of an inverse of the Kennedy's TBH.

Elon Musk's father said publicly that Elon was a bad parent, and at least one of his children seems to openly despise him.

source or gtfo (mostly bc I want to read it and giggle)

ETA: this yahoo article does a good job of summing it up

[–] ZombieZikeri@lemmy.world 33 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not OP, but found an article that goes over it with some quick internet searching: https://www.yahoo.com/news/fact-check-yes-hegseths-mother-213600388.html

[–] _fryerDan@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago

haha! i just finished reading that same article!

[–] revelrous@sopuli.xyz 23 points 1 week ago (2 children)

So, she said it—but she's totally walked it back since hes become secdef.

[–] ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The corruption spread I guess.

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pretty certain some men in black suits paid her a visit and convinced her to walk it back. I would 100% believe Pete bullied her into taking it back.

Well sure, he could drop a bomb on her house now

[–] stretch2m@infosec.pub 40 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Is it too late for her to get an abortion?

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

Not according to MAGA. They coined a term called "post-birth abortion" if I recall correctly.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 week ago

188th trimester abortion. Sounds okay to me.

[–] TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

These yahoos want Roman style paterfamilias laws, and that did give the parents the right to off their kids if they disobeyed them or brought shame on the family. Might be time to put up or shut up, just sayin'

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 26 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I mean my mother's ashamed of me because I'm trans and an atheist, someone's mother criticising them doesn't automatically mean that person's bad

This person seems bad for other, more relevant reasons

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 48 points 1 week ago

She listed the reasons, which does make him a shitty person.

Your mom's reasons do not, at all.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not your mother but I'm a mother and I'm proud of you! Being trans and atheist is being true to your soul despite the harsh reactions of society in general and especially people who ought to love you as you are. Be well, kiddo.

[–] melisdrawing@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You seem like a really good mom.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

I wasn't, but I'm getting better.

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

You do realize the point is her reasoning is valid AND it’s his mom right? Not just that it’s his mom otherwise you could literally put anything there like I’m ashamed of you cause you played a kazoo once… it’s the content that’s relevant

[–] MrShankles@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Brutal. I can't even imagine being such a piece of shit, that my mom has to tell me what a piece of shit I am

Son,

I have tried to keep quiet about your character and behavior, but after listening to the way you made Samantha feel today, I cannot stay silent. And as a woman and your mother I feel I must speak out..

You are an abuser of women — that is the ugly truth and I have no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around, and uses women for his own power and ego. You are that man (and have been for years) and as your mother, it pains me and embarrasses me to say that, but it is the sad, sad truth.

I am not a saint, far from it.. so don’t throw that in my face,. but your abuse over the years to women (dishonesty, sleeping around, betrayal, debasing, belittling) needs to be called out.

Sam is a good mother and a good person (under the circumstances that you created) and I know deep down you know that. For you to try to label her as “unstable” for your own advantage is despicable and abusive. Is there any sense of decency left in you? She did not ask for or deserve any of what has come to her by your hand. Neither did Meredith.

I know you think this is one big competition and that we have taken her side… bunk… we are on the side of good and that is not you. (Go ahead and call me self-righteous, I dont’ care)

Don’t you dare run to her and cry foul that we shared with us… that’s what babies do. It’s time for someone (I wish it was a strong man) to stand up to your abusive behavior and call it out, especially against women

We still love you, but we are broken by your behavior and lack of character. I don’t want to write emails like this and never thought I would. If it damages our relationship further, then so be it, but at least I have said my piece. [Redacted]

And yes, we are praying for you (and you don’t deserve to know how we are praying, so skip the snarky reply)

I don’t want an answer to this… I don’t want to debate with you. You twist and abuse everything I say anyway. But… On behalf of all the women (and I know it’s many) you have abused in some way, I say… get some help and take an honest look at yourself…

Mom

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Holy hell that's brutal. It's a shame he refused to even listen to his mother's plea for him to be decent

[–] MrShankles@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It sure is a shame. Not only did he shame his family and himself, but now he's gotta drag as many people down as he possibly can

Hell is empty, and all the devils are here

I may be considerably screwed up, but my mom still tells me she's proud of me.

[–] CausticFlames@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I may never have the wealth, or the resume (no matter how bullshit), or the power, or the cult like following that many in the administration has. But I will always have one thing that none of them could ever get.

A proud mother will always be my edge. And that’s worth more than anything any one of them could ever achieve, to me. In fact I think I’ll send her this with this message right now. I’m so grateful for her. Love you mom.

[–] ThunderComplex@lemmy.today 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Did Tommy Talarico write this comment?

No, I don't think the first American to work on Sonic would ever say that.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

His mom hates him for being a piece of shit. Somehow he still justifies his actions in his own mind.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

She should have dealt with that when he was still young. Now, I think she should just smack the crap out of him. I sure as hell would if my child grew up to be a horrific PoS...

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 26 points 1 week ago

I think it's unfair for society to always blame the mother for the behavior of their children, especially when they're an adult. Especially when it's likely you're blaming her for having been abused. And if she smacked him, he'd probably deck her because he's that kind of a douchebag.

I bet he's a testosterone addict.

There’s no burn like a mom burn

[–] laranis@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Occasionally there will be a post something like, "If there were one stat above everyone's head what would you want it be?"

I'd want it to be a measure of the accuracy of a person's self-perception compared to the consensus of everyone else. A 1 would indicate a perfect alignment between your self-perception and others. A 0 would be a complete misalignment.

Somewhere I'm guessing around the 0.2 mark we start disqualifying people from certain jobs, like leading national policy.

I think an ability to accurately self assess maps to higher empathy and intelligence.

This fucker bottoms out the scale.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'd go for 1 to -1 with 0 as correct perception, 1 as complete delusion (egotistical) and -1 as complete delusion (low self esteem). Too far from 0 is a problem, but a -.5 is a lot easier to deal with than a .5
