Please don't expose jellyfin to the Internet. It is not hardened against attackers.

I usually use my phone with WiFi off or set up my phone as a hotspot while not connected to WiFi so my laptop can connect through my cell carrier's network. Always helps for testing external connections quickly and easily.

Or you could use a free vpn, but some are sketchy beware.

Works fine. A bit slow to load, but less than 10s. Media plays just fine :)

[–] dry_water@programming.dev 2 points 4 hours ago

Works, just checked.

There is only one movie that I think that should fisl there and it's avatar 2, did w.e you played start up in a reasonable time?

[–] EisFrei@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Plays after a few seconds, doesn't stop to buffer.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

3 of 15 secs ( just curious about torrlable vs daily use or id rather pay

Im not charging anyone for anything just like to host and have good quality. Since you tested you'd have a user created after this with username/pass as EisFrei (caps the same)

[–] EisFrei@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Thank you, but I've got my own instance running, so you can remove the account.

Loading time was about 5 seconds, 3 after skipping.

I can test from France ~~in 3 hours~~ if you want.

FTR: fiber connection, 160 Mbps download with a VPN in Sweden (Mullvad fuck yeah), same upload speed.

[–] swizzlestick@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

One of the Mullvad founders funds a far right political party.

Thought you should know. It might not bother you, but it bothered me enough to move to an alternate provider.

[–] IsoKiero@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

You're of course correct on that, but Mullvad the company gave (somewhat) clear news release that their company is against far right (or left or any 'far' direction) politics. I'm not a customer and I couldn't care less about Mullvad, but I think it's worthwhile to keep in mind that company isn't the same than one of it's founders.

Of course if that is a breaking point to you, feel free to vote with your wallet and I can very much understand the decision, but there's very few fully reputable companies around so I can also understand if that's not a hill to die on.

[–] swizzlestick@lemmy.zip 1 points 27 minutes ago

Despite what comes from the mouth of the company, it is made from and run by the people behind it. Funding Mullvad funds him, and in turn that funds something intolerable to me. As long as that link is there, I won't be.

Separating the people from the company is viable when it's an inconsequential staffer in question. Not so for a co-founder and co-owner.

There aren't many things left in life where it's easy to have scruples, but this absolutely a hill that can be died upon without much inconvenience.

Thank you ping you back

I haven't tried for a long time but here are my scientific results:

  • /me Mullvad VPN in Sweden, fiber, 160 Mbps
  • 5 seconds to load a movie (from clicking on the Play button to the movie starting), it's good
  • 1 or 2 seconds to seek in the middle of the movie, I like that

There is a small glitch when I tried to turn on the subtitles of the "Community" TV show, but otherwise it seems to be fine. Should we look for specific issues?

More tests in 3 hours if you want, you have some good stuff.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Mostly just trying to test if it's not taking ~15+ seconds to start a movie or w.e or skippig. Or making it so it's bad

[–] one_old_coder@piefed.social 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Still good. It is obviously slower for Avatar which is in 4K + HEVC: 10 seconds to start, 5 seconds to seek, but it's still acceptable, you don't do those actions all the time. And it's not skipping, neither the sound nor the video.

BTW what is your setup? Is there some kind of transcoding?

No it's a old laptop running everything, including other severe. The Avatar 2 was like a 17gb movie that's why I was telling people to avoid it

To be honest I'm selling myself short there because I have diagnosed issues on contracts for ai stachs worth 4 million a pop, still .. .... It was Bs, no one knows the terminal command you need to pay attention to until you run them

I lost a 2tb drive and had issues with the server recently, just switched to a new ISP so I figured I'd test.

I accidentally already posted it here so just try it and let me know if it works 1-10 and what's bad about it lol. I'll have to remove those creds soon lol Website:
