Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

This year i first saw an ad for Photoshop, i see this as a sign of them losing. Keep up the good work folk!

As someone who loves linux and FOSS some of these are far from being replacements and some of these are even upgrades. It does depend on one's usage though. Like I couldn't tell a Photoshop power user that gimp is a full replacement. I could say though that blender is an upgrade from cinema 4D.

More people know Premier, but Natron is designed as a clone to the foundry's Nuke.

A better photoshop alternative is photopea. Gimp is it's own mess.

Can you download and install Photopea or does it still require a Web browser and an online connection to run?

Affinity Studio should be added, not FOSS but free. I t has a polished UI

[–] Spezi@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

I don’t speak polish though

Kdenlive is fucking awesome and should have been on this list.

Any one else looked into Graphite? I first found it as a vector editor, but it seems to have widened its scope a fair bit

How good is DaVinci Resolve on Linux? I have been wanting to switch for a long time now, but I read online that DaVinci doesn’t work that well on Linux, so has it gotten better?

It works best with NVIDIA drivers and with the least workarounds in RHEL type distros (officially it supports Rocky Linux).
Decoding and encoding is really limited, especially in the free version. There's details about codec support in their website.

If you pay for it, and you're already used to distros like Fedora, Rocky, RHEL it pretty much works out of the box. Only Fedora requites some tinkering. There's also tools and workarounds for distros like Arch AFAIK.

Is there anything to sort of replace InDesign? I am doing cruel, time consuming, and unspeakable things with latex atm.
