Because AI confused a toilet roll holder with a wall mounted lamp and gave us something in-between.
I’m on vacation in Switzerland right now and I’ve seen this in a bunch of people’s home bathrooms.
Maybe because you’re less likely to accidentally whack the roll and knock it to the floor? 🤷♂️

Very common in Europe.
There is a steel frame behind the wall bolted to the wall and to the floor with the water container/chamber, and the toilet is held up by huge metal bolts.
The ceramic toilet part can usually hold minimum 300-400 kg, so you could dance on it without any issue.
It can be fully serviced through the push button plate.
Advantages: visually more clean, easier cleaning under the bowl, quiet operation behind the wall while filling up the chamber with water.
Huh I thought we were laughing at the dick button but apparently people are confused by wall mounted toilets? 😅

The large flush button looks like it got clipped on the left but that could be a weird artistic decision.

I hate european toilets for this reason. If I cannot access the cistern due to a plumbing problem and have to literally rip apart panelling to diagnose any issue, then this toilet is anti-consumer
Edit: Actual Europeans pointing out that you can access the cistern by pulling out the button plate. Makes sense now, apologies, I didn't know - it really looked like it was access hostile
You can access and replace the entire internal mechanism through the hole the wall plate for the flush buttons is mounted on.
I just had a look because I have never had to service a toilet like this. The water shutoff appears to be easily accessible. As for any further work, an exposed tank is surely easier to deal with when a toilet misbehaves.
You can service and repair every part through the opening. It's a bit tight, but doable.

I wouldn't trust whatever is holding it to the wall long term.
Why? Most commercial toilets are wall mounted and get shat in way more than consumer plinth toilets.
Because, on Lemmy, trust, optimism, and most expressions of positive thinking are seen as weakness, ignorance, or both.
As a disabled dude who sits down on the shitter with the force of a kid literally jumping into bed, I give this toilet 2 visits with my ass before it tears off the wall.
I have a setup kind of like this and it's rated for 200 kilos

Why not? Wall mounted toilets like this are super common here in Europe and there’s never an issue. The big advantage is that you can more easily clean underneath them.
What you don’t see is that the toilet isn’t actually held up by the wall itself. There’s a steel frame inside the wall linke this.
As I'm currently building myself a house I can tell you that the wall mounted toilets are rated for 400kg at the tip,the furthermost from the wall, of the bowl.
