Community rules (click to expand)

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.

So if I install an antivirus on this KPOP!_OS, I now have a KPOP daemon hunter

OOM killer could be daemon hunter too.

To become an KPOP daemon hunter, simply open Konsole on Pop!_OS and run pkill 'd$'.

So it's Hanna Montana linux with extra steps

    [–] red_tomato@lemmy.world 115 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Khanna Montana is my favorite distro

    [–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 27 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

the current HM is just a certain distro + kde theme, so it's just HM, not KHM

    EDIT :

Hannah Montana Linux v26.0 is a modern remaster of the original Hannah Montana Linux. It uses Debian's live-build and the Calamares installer.

Much of this project is just a re-skin of KDE Plasma. Many of the Plasma components are direct modifications of Plasma's default theme, Breeze. As such, this project is licensed under GPLv3+.

    Debian+ KDE + Pink

Just install this and call it a day : https://store.kde.org/p/2362661

I have actually done this a few years back. The trick is to add in the Kubuntu backport repository to get later versions (at least back when I did it).

I called it Kupobop and changed the OS symbol to a tiny moogle from Final Fantasy.

Then my Arch friend annoyed me into trying Arch, so naturally I now use Fedora.

    [–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 39 points 4 days ago

    my Arch friend

Is that like an arch nemesis but a friend?

    [–] Zyratoxx@fedia.io 26 points 4 days ago (1 children)

same for me just with openSussy instead of Fedora

    [–] Eyedust@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

openSUSE is still on my distro bucket list. When I'm ready to hop I usually just start pushing my luck messing with things until my current setup fails. Then I pretend to be upset and inconvenienced while secretly excited to try something new.

    [–] iopq@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, the problem with NixOS is when you mess something up you can always restore to an older working version

    [–] Eyedust@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 hours ago

Can relate, NixOS is still running great on my laptop. The day I'm ready to stop hopping is the day I export all of my nixfiles and home manager configurations to my main machine.

    [–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

I can't do Suse because I used SLES9 for work in 2005 or so, and it made me never want to see that little chameleon again.

    KnixOS, the K is silent

    [–] Zacryon@feddit.org 9 points 4 days ago (2 children)

    Shouldn't it be "KopenSuse"?

    [–] boonhet@lemmy.zip 9 points 4 days ago

I like openkuse more. In Estonian, kuse is either imperative form of the verb to pee, or the possessive case of the noun.

Though admittedly I used OpenKuse and it was super reliable for me.

    [–] Poach@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

    The "k" is silent

Kalma linux sounds like the goth version, especially in Finnish, where kalma is a kind of synonym for death

    [–] Ricaz@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is this in any way related to Kalmarunionen?

if not, please lie to me

    [–] Haaveilija@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

    lying: yes, definitely!

not lying: Actually that's another funny thing since Kalmarunionen is also not etymologically related to calamari either, which also is "kalmari" in Finnish. Kalmarunionen comes from the swedish city of Kalmar, which has it's name origin in "kalm" meaning some kind of pile of rocks, even a memorial grave kind of thing, so that's close! However, at least the language bank of Finland considers this an unlikely origin for the Finnish kalma and suggests other roots, see https://sanat.csc.fi/wiki/Etymologiadata:imsm:kalma
