I posted this one so I can get my Ice cream van hatred out in the comments.

I'm sure some people will just think I'm some sort of monster but I don't think these vans should be allowed to blast advertising into my house without my consent. Not at any time of the day, I like to nap.

I'm lucky that my new house the ICV hardly ever comes round and the guy who drives it doesn't have insane volume so I don't really have a problem with that. At my old address the ICV used to totally blast out the chimes every fucking day, could hear it all afternoon until at some point he parked right in front of my house and plays it.

Fuck Ice cream vans, ban them all tbh. I have to put up with a sugar tax for the kids, I think selling them high sugar ice cream from mobile vans causing kid pressure on parents should also be a thing of the past.

I don't know if you remember the Beast from the East blizzard in early 2018, but I was living in Dublin at that time and around 5 pm, it was already dark outside, I heard strange music coming closer from around the corner of my street. I looked through the window and low and behold, it was the most committed ice cream van lad I've ever seen. I laughed so hard, I almost choked on my pint. Went outside and bought some ice cream from him. He was good craic.

The ice cream wars were turf wars in the East End of Glasgow, Scotland, in the 1980s between rival criminal organisations selling drugs[1][2] and stolen goods[1] from ice cream vans.

He was maybe committed to the route for other reasons. It escalated to violence in Glasgow but I don't doubt it's happening in other cities, just without the theatrics of violent turf wars

could hear it all afternoon

It sounds like the issue here is specific to the chimes being played after 7:00 PM, rather than them being played at all.

Rhondda Cynon Taf council said it received a noise complaint in June relating to music being played after 20:00 BST, which it investigated and found to be valid.

The council said the law required a 19:00 cut-off time for ice cream van operators to use their chimes, but it did not "prevent them from trading after this time".

I know, but I think the law's not strong enough.

Do you think it's acceptable to blare advertising into peoples homes? Especially when that advertising is for high sugar kid snacks sold on the backs of kid pressure on parents?

What if they sold weed instead of ice cream?

I don't mind them...hardly see them any more...but TBH thought they were all drug dealers now...maybe i was misinformed.

The ice cream van around my house is out every day in rain, snow, cold and all miserable weather. Not heard it once in summer. If they're not a drug dealer I don't know what their business plan is.
