They looking to support cheaters now? /s

Tim Sweeney is a bitch.

Bring back the Rocket League Linux client or eat a fucking dick, Epic.

Some folks forget Rocket League had a perfectly running Linux version of the game UP UNTIL Epic bought it and shitcanned the Linux version.

[–] popcar2@piefed.ca 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Doesn't it work flawlessly via proton?

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I wouldn't know when they dropped the Linux client was the day I dumped the game

[–] VonReposti@feddit.dk 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

You could even get a full refund for your purchase. I did with 100s of hours and the original purchase being years ago.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

It was gifted to me, so I'm not sure how that would work.

EDIT: Upon reflection though, it would be nice if you could refund your friends for a game they gifted you that you weren't actually into (as long as you make sure it doesn't hurt the friends feelings first of course)

[–] alakey@piefed.social 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

On Steam you can, you request a refund (effectively just removing the game from your acc) and then your friend needs to request it as well for it to proceed.

[–] blight@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

They refused my refund request for Rust when they pulled Linux support. This was a few years ago though so maybe they've changed policies since.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Did you appeal the denial? The automatic system will deny it if it's outside of the approved window, but I had support override in the past for games that rug pulled.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago

It was kinda annoying that you had to fight for it. I can't imagine how many people who put down the game for a few years and checked up on it to find the Linux version is no longer supported and they're beyond the point to request a refund.

[–] kat_angstrom@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah, I'm running Bazzite and still playing Rocket League through Steam. Works great, better framerate than Windows

[–] helios@social.ggbox.fr 4 points 3 days ago

Yes it does, even with the recent introduction of EAC. It's totally fine by me that there is no native Linux build in this case.

[–] kamee@lemmy.zip 33 points 3 days ago (7 children)

Nice, one more OS where I can choose to not use it.

Epic showed their true colors when their store app was caught rummaging through unrelated files and collecting Steam account data from people's systems. (This was no surprise coming from the creators of Epic Online Services, or from a CEO like Tim Sweeney, of course.)

Their software won't be welcome on my systems even if they do make a Linux version.

[–] Kaligalis@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It already has - Heroic works just fine.

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Heroic is awesome for the 1 game i use Epic for (Alan Wake II). A native Epic app will probably never grace my device

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

Can't wait to get 20 Fortnite ads. And then an error message that Fortnite doesn't run on Linux.

[–] N0ll@lemmy.zip 19 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It’d be pretty funny if the Linux client will be actually usable unlike the windows version

[–] nothingcorporate@lemmy.today 6 points 3 days ago

Yeah, when I switched to Linux, I was amazed at how much better Heroic launcher was for Epic games than the official (Windows) Epic games launcher.

I sincerely doubt whatever they come up with for Linux will be worth it.

I always laughed at this. The difference here Tim is you can VOTE and make your voice heard with the US and democracy. Microsoft has a monopoly. They don't care as long as they get enough users to buy in, it's financially viable to them and they force it on everyone. But hey, what do I know, I've been a Linux user since 2007 and I've been SHOCKED at what people would put up with on their PC and Microsoft's Windows.

Good, now i can ignore it on Catchy OS...

...Wake me whe GoG Galaxy and MO2 gets native versions for Linux

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fellow CachyOS user (we’re like the lil’ brothers of Arch!).

While I do appreciate GoG working on their own native launcher - is there anything wrong with just using Heroic for both GoG and EGS?

Only tangentially related, but I specifically claim every single game they make freely available on multiple accounts - just in the vain effort of costing Tim Sweeney money, even though I am yet to launch even one.

[–] tio_bira@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

To be honest, as much i despise the AI polemics over Lutris, is still the superior option for modded old games.

I tried migrate my Fallout Tale of Two Wastlands and Skyrim modlists to heroic (thank God OpenMW runs natively) and both failed spectacularly.

Skyrim didn't compiled the CS shaders and Fallout wasn't loading the reshade effects, i didn't even bother in migrate the others (Ultima, Daggerfall, Saints Row 2, Fallout London).

I think then a native GoG launcher and MO2 port to Linux would be a better option, consider all my modable games, except Left4Dead 2 and Half Life Alyx, are from GoG versions

[–] vortexal@sopuli.xyz 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I guess that's cool but Epic Games will still be at the bottom of my list of game/app stores that I use.

For context, I've been using a chart of game/app store with scores based on multiple categories and sorting them into a list to keep track of which ones I should be prioritizing. With on how I currently have them rated, the Epic Games Store will go from a 1/10 to a 4/10, which means that it's still at the bottom of my list.

[–] dzsimbo@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Where's GOG on that chart? How would you compare it to Steam?

[–] vortexal@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Both GOG and Steam are tied near the top of the list with 9/10 scores.

But I should mention that since the chart was made specifically for my own personal use, it may not be the best for public use (which is why I haven't posted it online anywhere). If I am to have it posted anywhere, I'd want to make some adjustments like giving certain categories more weight and expanding some others, maybe even add more. I probably wont though, as I'm just one person and I know for sure that my own biases will get in the way.

[–] dzsimbo@sopuli.xyz 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Isn't that how all good charts start out? One opinionated person makes a list of what makes sense to them and maybe attaches a methodology for how they arrived at the order or points.

In my book, GOG would be 10, but I have never purchased a game through them, so it seems they're not perfect after all. I wanna give steam less points cuz they are only dealing in licenses, so besides Gabe & SteamOS, they feel no better than Epic.

So maybe Steam is a 7 for me, and GOG is only ideally a 10, but in reality I paid them as much as I have Epic ($0).

[–] vortexal@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've done it. I've create my website and finished creating the page dedicated to game and app stores. It took longer than I was expecting but it's in a good enough shape that I can fix any issues with it and add some more stuff to it tomorrow. I've also changed how I rated every app store, GOG is now 13/15 and Steam is 12.5/15. Here's the link to the home page. I'm going to bed now.

[–] dzsimbo@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Dang, awesome list!!

You made me want to check out rawg.io, but it's throwing a cloudfare error 😅!

I like how you break out the point categories, but I don't understand what you were doing with the stars (they seem to appear randomly).

[–] vortexal@sopuli.xyz 1 points 8 hours ago

RAWG is back up now if you still want to check it out.

[–] vortexal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

Also yeah, RAWG has been down for a few days now. There is a possibility that it may shut down soon. From what I understand, it's been almost completely abandoned by it's owners for years now, which is unfortunate because it is a great platform.

[–] vortexal@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I mentioned it at the top of the page, if you hover your mouse over them (only works on PC from what I remember) you'll get an explanation for that tile. I should probably make that clearer since I did kind of bury that in the paragraph at the top of the page.

[–] dzsimbo@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

Haha, me and my reading skills! Yeah, I lemmy from my phone only, got it as a replacement for reddit. I'm happy to see itch.io getting some respect.

[–] vortexal@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 days ago

I guess your right, I might relearn HTML so I can open another website through neocities. I used to maintain a website under a different name there but I deleted it, thinking that I wouldn't use it again. I would just post it to Odysee (the Youtube alternative) since they have more than just videos but I don't know if they'd allow me to link to websites like Nutaku.

[–] Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Last time I checked a few years back it was impossible to put multiple items to the shopping cart, leave a review or get community help with a game.

Is the game store good now?

[–] Luffy879@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago

Nope. Still no reviews, still filled with crypto stuff, janky AF, etc

[–] Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If they don't integrate Proton as part of this to allow all those Windows games to just work, and then also don't subsequently make at least a token effort to contribute to Proton's codebase, this isn't enough for me to care. On the other hand, if they do actually do both of those things I may be willing to end my nigh on a decade boycott of their services.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

This is exactly why I don't think this will actually happen because it would require Sweeney to suck up his Valve hate and use something Valve created and considering how he'll straight up do anything to oppose Valve that's a lot of sucking up to do.

“The digital distribution storefront equivalent of cancer thinking about moving to Linux”.

[–] LemmyEntertainYou@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago (2 children)

It won't be as good as Heroic so who cares?
