Is an interesting way to phrase the question, I feel like I would interpret this as a referendum on the deal and not a "general election" on the Government over a trade deal.. seems odd for a Majority government to call an election.
Well there's no chance it would ever happen. I'm surprised anyone would even ask that question to be honest. Unless carney was absolutely certain of getting a new majority mandate why would he do that? And his numbers are good, but they're not that good. It would be possible that he could wind up with another minority, so why would he take that risk?
But it is interesting to see that so many people consider it to be a subject that is worth deciding whether or not to keep a government over. It's been generally thought that no matter what happens carney won't wear it because trump will be blamed for anything good or bad, but I wonder if carney may not be held to a higher level of account than people expect?
Do we call off the election when the deal is inevitably broken? We usually have a six week writ period, most of Trumps deals don't last that long.
Well most of trump steals actually last a lot longer than that. And he won't be running again, although there's no guarantee that the next person won't be just as bad.
Also I have a horrible feeling this deal is probably particularly good for him. Carney has been caving to him since day one and I doubt this is any different
This actually surprised me. I can see carney allowing it is if he thought he had such a massive lead in the polls there's no way that he could get anything but a majority, and frankly even as currently isn't that strong and he's not really much of a risk taker. I think he'll stay with his manufactured majority and won't consider calling an election
It would make no sense to call an election on a trade deal with the pedo pressy... Trump has and will again rip the deal and demand something new as soon as he feels like it.
Regardless of the terms, a deal with trump is not worth the used toilet paper his aids discard
Well that's not quite true, trump does tend to keep his word at least until the next term where he will claim it was the worst deal ever and he's going to negotiate a new one and he wishes he could find whoever wrote the last one 🤣🤣
A deal would bring much-needed stability for the business community which we haven't had until now and it's been brutalizing us horribly. Hopefully it's a good deal, and not a complete piece of crap.
not sure what stability it would bring as trump has already reneged on fresh deals… your statement on him waiting to the next term literally happenend once so it does not tend to anything but going back on his own word is more predictable than breathing
the second he needs another distraction, and given his mediocrity he will need as many as he can get, he will make up a non-sensical excuse and reneg on the deal again
The business community sees it as stability. And trump doesn't generally reneg on deals he's just done. He may find something ELSE to pick on but for the industries involved it brings some certainty. Enough to get the investment they need.
I know he hasn't gone back on anything this term that he signed to this term. I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Like I say it's nothing to stop him from picking on another sector or the light but if they do a deal on cars for example he'll stick by that deal on cars
And in case you haven't noticed we're failing horribly right now. Our economy is getting worse not better and carney is trying desperately to whitewash how bad we're doing and using terms like technical recession but if things continue the way they are right now our economy will be in severe dire straits within a year. Investment is fleeing the country because of the uncertainty and we're going to get pounded if we don't turn things around. So pretending that the status quo is somehow better would be a mistake
