"Lehane admitted people would not “feel great” about the threat of attacks, and described the risk as coming from open-source models – many of which are developed in China – which are only a few months behind frontier closed models built by companies such as OpenAI."

This is not an attempt to securley pause AI development but rather a not so subtle way of attacking ooen source?

The leading AI company this week announced a pause in development of its most advanced internal models amid rising safety fears

I've heard this one before.

"This new technology has been great while the wealthy early adopters could use it to exploit the masses, but now that it's becoming more widespread and democratized, we must regulate it carefully, introducing rules with which only the wealthy and well-established can realistically comply, to protect society."

The current AIs are dangerous in some sense, but they’re nothing compared to the AIs of next year and compared to the AIs of a year later

Pardon me, what dangerous company’s IPO were you trying to get everyone to “avoid” again?
