Vapor World: Over The Mind is a Soulslike Metroidvania with an evocative, painterly art style reminiscent of Lies of P and the narrative platformers of Playdead. According to Korean studio Alive Inc, the game had 100,000 wishlists just before its early access launch on August 19, mostly on the strength of a demo available since January 2025.

But what should have been a triumphant early access launch went pear shaped very quickly. At launch, few talked about the quite distinctive worldbuilding or the parry-heavy combat. Instead, all focus was trained entirely on something absent from the popular demo: very obvious AI use.

I see it used mostly for manually painted 3D scenes - where the artist has textured the objects with brush strokes, or a procedural shader setup that makes it look like they've been painted.

Random example from the internet:

Bummer. Looks like a cool idea art-wise judging by the gameplay trailer.

Too bad these fuckers are too lazy and untalented to do the work themselves.

The title is in Early Access, and apparently they already removed the AI cutscenes.

On the Steam store page, the second trailer still shows an AI trailer. I assume it was in this style.

Currently, it sits at 70 Steam reviews; Mixed.

Half of the 70 is certainly not a huge backlash. Given they removed it now, and it's still in early access, maybe they can recover.
