We’re all talking about Quebec, which we couldn’t accept without violating our own charter

But then having veto power on us making trade deals is fucked

Either option is the death of Canada, and they’re not subtle either.

They also wanted control over mineral extraction, ffs. It's like King Ludwig and the Belgian Congo are back.

[-] Mirshe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

As I pointed out, they aren't the demands you make of a state or even a vassal, they're demands you make of a colony.

In a few specific languages*

[-] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, apologies. The big Romance languages, German, and English.

For a few more, try konjugator.reverso.net. It’s only conjugation though.

[-] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

I find spaced reptition of individual forms is the best way to learn conjugations. Use an app like anki or just write the damn things out on index cards. The KOFI series of conjugation decks for Anki is excellent.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I do best under very traditional methods, to the point that I probably repeat “amo, amas, amat” or “soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son” to myself a couple of times a year, as my primary method of remembering conjugations, but this is just a reference for every possible conjugation of any verb that you can use to make flash cards or whatever other method works.

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 2 points 2 weeks ago

You just triggered some like deep sleeper agent conditioning in me. I just said out loud "amo, amas, amat, amamus, amatis, amant" without even realizing what I was doing

[-] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yup. It's good to have that sort of "written down" in your brain like that, but you want individual pathways to each form eventually. If you're just learning as a hobby and are waiting until you're thrown into immersion to really learn, I guess it's not bad.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

It doesn’t become less effective for me, as much as I don’t need it anymore as my language ability progresses, then rely on it again if my ability regresses. I’m a nonnative German teacher in Germany and while I don’t have to jog my memory for standard conjugations, if I learn a new verb that has a short i in present tense and a long a in preterite, I’ll still chant “singe, sang, gesungen” in my head. It’s just different learning styles.

[-] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, it's sort of like a base. I just know for me learning Latin, I was super anxious and would just drill on the tables over and over again and that was ultimately not a good use of my time--as I'm sure you'd agree.

I still try to have little recitations, especially for irregular conjugations to remind myself that they're irregular. If I conjugate them in isolation, I'm more likely to construct it regularly instead of irregularly.
