I'm middle aged. Since I was a teen I've had bouts of my life where I'd rather feel nothing at all than continue to be depressed. I'm on meds for anxiety already and have had depression throughout my life. I have never been on strong enough dose to make me feel numb but I hear people talk about it. Honestly, it sounds appealing. My life has been mostly negative with small periods of positive. On the whole, I think I'd be better off a robot than permanently end things, IYKWIM.

tldr - people sometimes complain depression meds make them numb, as a bad thing, but that sounds appealing to me. Has anyone done that on purpose and how was your experience?

Never been on meds. Figured out my depression and anxiety were caused bg the environment i was in. I then worked my ass off to get out of those environments. Once i got out, my depression and anxiety lessened. I did do therapy for a bit as well. Get to the root cause of your depression.

I get it. But don’t. Benzo withdrawal is a special kind of hell. I go for harm reduction. So instead of drinking I smoke weed. You’ll find what works for you. Hang in there.

No, but you should talk to a doctor about these feelings. There may be other options for you. Different medicine or psychological treatments that may have better outcomes for you.

There's no single "happy pill" that works for everyone, and sometimes something that works for one person can make symptoms worse in other people.

what you describe is called "dissociation" btw

some people have it as an automatic coping mechanism with difficult situations

My experience with emotional numbing from prescribed psychotropics was pretty awful. It was just like being in a waiting room forever.

I only got better when I walked away from seeing my problems through the lens of psychiatry and found ways to accept myself for who I was.

If you're routinely abusing prescription medication to self medicate, you need to tell your doctor ASAP so dosage can be adjusted properly, or switched to a more effective medication.

Because obviously if you double dose a prescription medication, that means you have to skip a dose later.

Like, adjusting dosage is a normal part of being on medication, you might just need a slightly higher dose because some tolerance built up, this is why they start with low dosages. Needing a slight increase is 100% normal.

But what you're doing is making the problem worse, it's not fixing anything.

Thank you for sharing

Some meds don't work as well as others for different people for different reasons. Some people go through 3,4,5 or more different medications to find the one that works, and each of them needs 3-6mo of effort to see results

Non-medically, try changing things up, get a dog or a cat, go for more walks, drink plenty of water, eat good foods, try weed, make a joke to a stranger at the store
