Hasn't it been well established for a while now that hosting the Olympics is a giant pit that you throw taxpayer money into, and never get it back? It's not a positive investment. Why does any community still agree to do it?
Take that money you would have spent on Olympic infrastructure and instead use it to actually make your community a better place to live!
Only if you do it wrong. SLC made money. It's one reason Mitt was so popular there. They planned the infrastructure to benefit the city after the games were over.
The community and taxpayers may get nothing from it, but that doesn’t mean that nobody gets anything from it. The people making the decision probably get something from it, maybe even at the expense of the community and taxpayers.

What makes you think the California community agreed to do it?
City councils often vote for things that are opposed by most of the community.
Flock surveillance cameras come to mind.

Let’s see what wins out. Trump’s petty / vindictive side and his urge to hurt cities that didn’t vote for him and resist his policies.
Or Trump’s vanity, and his desire to be center stage at the Olympics in summer 2028.
Or he’ll balance both and say that LA needs to make it all about Trump in order to get transportation money.

Like arranging for the Olympics and other heavily tourist and locally destructive events to be there.
He will also do whatever it takes to grift and inflate his ego.
Come on Californians, pass around the collection plate. Your Billionaires need you!
If they only need $2B they should just transfer funds from the high speed rail project. Then something might actually come from that money.
