Couple days ago. Hanging out with a few friends, burgers and beers at a sit down place. Not high end, but not McDs either. Normal place.

I notice a girl one table over is clearly doing a whole ass livestream or sth. Not just a quick selfie. Clearly streaming. Wagging her phone all around, for like 10+ minutes.

My friends didn't even notice. I'm mad tho, b/c I don't wanna be on whatever shit some influencer is gonna u/l the stream to. Prob youtube or her IG or w/e.

But nothing I can do. Getting up to ask her to cut it TF out would only have made it worse. That just makes me content fodder!

Where I live, most restaurants I’d visit have a sign up in the door saying “filming and photography inside this restaurant is prohibited without permission from management.”

If I see someone waving a phone around, I just wave at the nearest waitstaff and point, and they take care of it from there.

It’s tricky though, because a restaurant doesn’t want to get plastered all over YT or IG either. But at least they can point out the fact that it’s clearly posted on the door.

True. I've even heard of cases where a "food influencer" demands a free meal from a place. If they won't acquiesce, they threaten terrible reviews on their socials. Now maybe influencer has 73 followers so who cares. But maybe they have 73M and restaurant takes a drubbing on social media. I don't envy the restaurants either TBH.

I agree it’s impolite to photograph or take video of people without permission regardless of the rules where you live. It’s additionally impolite to post it online without getting permission first.

Be an adult, either ask her yourself or a staff member that you don’t appreciate being recorded in a private setting. If nothing changes and she continues to record you take your business elsewhere.

Staff member is a good idea, thx. I didn't think of it. I did think of asking her myself. But that turns me from a rando in the b/g, to an object of ridicule on her stream. Fuck that.

Although someone else in the threat mentioned too, it can pose difficulties for the restaurant too.

Kinda... Different tho! The restaurant prob doesn't u/l their security cam streams to youtube or IG.

It might make it to databrokers, although some are just closed circuit and don't make it off-prem. Depends on the place. But honestly I'd rather be on the restaurant's security system, than behind some yapping influencer. And I'd rather be a rando in the b/g, than featured as hey get a load of this clown asking me to stop streaming in a public restaurant.
