She was a worker that made way more money for other people. However her limited charity shows how easy it would be for the rich to have a good reputation and they can't even manage that.

Also: she had real talent, not just daddy’s money. She created art that spoke to millions of people; she didn’t just buy an existing company and take credit for everything. She saw individual people with their own stories, troubles, and dreams, not cattle to be exploited for more wealth.

She also was humble by her poor upbringing. She used her wealth to uplift her community.

Most tech bros want to be treated like Steve Jobs, who is still seen as "a great and visionary leader" post mortem

[-] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 13 points 1 day ago

Nobody sees themselves as the bad guy. At worst, they see themselves as victims of the system.

[-] Sumocat@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Then they should be fired, just like Jobs was, build new empires from scratch, like NeXT and Pixar, then return to save their original companies from the brink of collapse, just like Jobs did. They want to be treated like Jobs, that’s how to do it.

And in spite of all that, he was still a shitty person. He also happened to be good at marketing and functional design.

[-] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

good at marketing and functional design.

That's all he was good at. Well, and finding people that could actually create the thing worth marketing.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

He was pretty good at eating fruit.

For a while.

The most notable thing Apple did with the iPod was straight lifted from creative. Only people that don't look very deep see Steve jobs as anything but your garden variety dickhead CEO

I mostly see him as a fucking moron that believed in alternative medicine.

and he was extremely lucky with the type of pancreatic cancer he had, slow growing treatable although rare, managable. while most pancreatic cancers are already advanced by the time of diagnosis. PNET tumors vs adenocarcinoma(regular kind). also wasted a LIVER TRANSPLANT too.

For a legacy, he has a pretty good one. I bet if he lived long enough he’d be seen as a crazy billionaire too. I’m sure he’s been to an island or two.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago

You should learn more about how he treated his family.

[-] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

he has a good one

To a certain type of person. The rest of us saw him as the predatory dickhead he was.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

up until delusions(Logevity obsession) ends up killing him, and htem.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 1 day ago

shes also a southern white woman, thats why conservatives dont rag on her. because it would upset the racist republican base, eventhough she is the exact opposite.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago

I mostly hear conservatives supporting billionaires lately. With the exception of Soros, but that’s because he supports democrats.

[-] grue@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

It also helps that she was significantly less wealthy than the tech oligarchs, with "only" half a billion dollars. Which is itself a fucking absurd amount of money, and just goes to show just how fucking far beyond the pale the robber-barons of this new gilded age actually are.

[-] HAL_9_TRILLION@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

For fucking real - decades upon decades of just HUGE smash hits, not just for herself but also others. And she manages a "measly" half a billion, yet these no-talent fucks who inherit their money end up with billions.

[-] the_mighty_kracken@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

She could have been a billionaire. She chose not to be. Instead, she spent millions helping people.

[-] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

What is "your's" a contraction of?

[-] Foxfire@pawb.social 5 points 1 day ago

It's wrong, but I think the intent is that it's a possessive for the death of someone. Imagine if it were a name instead, like in the prior sentence (Dolly's passing), and you can see the train of thought. Let's choose a random name and follow what I assume the process was here: "Elon's [passing] will not be treated the same..."
