Same reason no one well admit that US Senator is dead.
From iran here, it's widely believed that he is alive but so heavily injured he can't do anything.
Devil’s Advocate: say they admit that he’s dead, that starts a clock to find a replacement, and when one is found they immediately have a target put on their back
What benefit does that give Iran? They’d be right where they started
With that said I think he’s turbo dead, and I’m happy to eat crow when he recovers and makes media appearances
