After 15+ years, I actually just left reddit the other day, it's a lot more fun here. I basically stuck around for a couple local communities. Now I'm just corrupting my posts to help out their IPO.

They're forcing you to be logged in just to view old.reddit now. So you need a phone number now. That's not suspicious at all.

People were reporting getting the old.reddit login wall way back but I guess it finally rolled out more, I'm getting it now too

I read a bit about it and some people suggested doing so and so. I decided I'm good at this point. I use waterfox, ublock, and noscript so it didn't happen to me until yesterday. Besides, the advertising got so out of control, the small local subs having the "I ate this here" and "what's the best place to have this food" got annoying. Let alone having some restaurant opening in six months having two of the same posts on the front page, like I said I stuck to small subs, and their website to be completely AI generated, images and all. Oh boy did the sub enjoy shitting all over them.

Fair, I think I'm going to use redlib as a workaround personally, even though the quality of the site is going downhill fast there's still a lot of information I can't really find elsewhere, and often search results where every other link is even more saturated with spam than the reddit comments are.

Same. Did the same thing just last week.

I've been here 3 years, and have had no motivation to go back.

It's definitely not the same - it is smaller. But I adjusted and it's been good.

I'm actually surprised how much interaction there is here instead of being down voted by bots for criticizing a company. Heh the last post I made, someone was like I don't know who is down voting you, someone that works for the company or a bot. And this was a small forum.

Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.

[-] Alexfire@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

Oh no, fragmented landscape and brand visibility!! Lol corpo buzzwords.

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 hours ago

Ban indiscriminately, use only company-approved AI bots, profit.

Cant wait until the mask slips and even the layman can see.

[-] paraphrand@lemmy.world 19 points 7 hours ago

They always use the word “trust” for the manipulation of Reddit conversations. Fucking ghouls.

We need vetted online spaces that keep that shit out.

[-] UnLocoPoco@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Who's gonna vet the Vetter

Me. I'll be the final watcher who watches the watchers. You don't have to worry about me turning into a despot as I'm just too god damned ADHD to run a proper dictatorship.

[-] FundMECFS@piefed.zip 2 points 3 hours ago

Er heißt Ubervetter.

[-] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

vetted by who?

[-] TheJesusaurus@piefed.ca 35 points 9 hours ago

I think we can kind of just assume that all industries are always trying to work with anyone to influence anyone

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

So long as the checks clear

[-] bedwyr@piefed.ca 7 points 6 hours ago

With only a little effort, a collective of like minded people could counteract this effectively.

Maybe some are already, I want to help though.

[-] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 15 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

What an overwraught title. "Advertising company pitches effectiveness of their advertisements" like... yeah, that's what they do? They're desperately trying to figure out how to make reddit profitable because boy-fuckin'-howdy are they doomed, this is just yet another in a long line of wildly exaggerated pitches they've made.

[-] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 7 hours ago

that's where i want the meteor to hit

[-] KC_Royalz@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago
