Wow who's shocked? The PlayStations were already being sold for a loss and now the production costs are going up? Who would have thunk that they're going to try to squeeze every penny that they can?
Until and unless they face a mass revolt from their customer base - they will continue to introduce more and more anti-consumer practices.
However, given the general apathy regarding Sony’s decision to discontinue physical media - I don’t have much faith in Gamers^TM^ to rally in their own long-term interests.
They seem to use eachother in a stepping-stone or leapfrog or something tactic.
One does something shitty, the other goes "lmao we would never" then a year or two later they're both doing it saying "well its just normal"
It won't be a revolution, it will be a mass exodus...as many of us have foreseen long ago.

Kobo reader on my kindle was a move I definitely don't regret.

Yes KOReader, thank you. Kindle is (was) super easy to jailbreak, and I did it specifically for that program. I used to hate the default program. Hardly any customizations and ran horribly.
I have a Kobo Clara 2E with me and use KOReader on it as well. I have an Xteink X4 Pro and an X3 coming. Planning to flash Crosspoint, a community firmware, the second I get it in my hands. Should be a nice setup hopefully.
I hadn't heard of crosspoint. Looking at development, it seems like they add a lot every month. I like that. Amazing what a group of determined users can do to improve upon a thing companies should've done in the first place...
Exactly... I've been following their development for a while and just can't see myself using the stock software on that device. That said, I have to appreciate Xteink regardless because they ship unlocked devices and their default software also doesn't have any kind of forced login, unlike Kobo and Kindle. I might make an ereader in the future though, would be nice
Has any company given back the tariffs?
It honestly sounds like such a huge hassle to try give that money back. The amount of labor required would be huge, you'd need to check every receipt, probably manually. Make sure all of them are legit, aren't double submitted

Good for them. Are they selling direct to customers though? If yes, they have all the customer and payment details already, so it would be relatively easy?
Yeah, IIRC Panic had the tariffs as a separate line item when buying Playdates, so it seems like they were planning for this from the start.
Cool. It's cheap for them to do that because they are selling an extremely overpriced P.O.S. that requires an account to use and becomes e-waste iPhone style if it gets passed around owners and the previous one doesn't "unlink" it.
I do not think that doing the right thing is difficult, is the customers problem here. The companies could have also just not given those costs forward to the customer, but they were very happy to do so, because, well... money.
Those tariffs would likely have eaten their entire margin so they have to pass it on. Even Panic had to pass them on.
Perhaps they could have gambled on the tariffs being rolled back, but if they got it wrong they would have lost money.
Its just a no-win scenario unless you can predict the future.
I don’t plan to ever pay for a game console or game again
As serious & terrible as it seems: pocketing rebates at the expense of their customers is pretty far down on the list of things they need to worry about.
