Crickets have never looked better

Now dude, if you had to eat crickets/grasshoppers, you have to admit frying them with chilies and scooping guac with them has to be the best option. Spicy, crunchy, full of protein, gluten free!

[-] artyom@piefed.social 15 points 6 days ago

I've had them before. They taste like potato chips.

You had me at gluten free.

I mean... shrimps is bugs.

Lobsters and crabs too. It's strange that so many people are fine with eating acquatic bugs, but will turn their nose up at the terrrestrial equivalents.

I've been wanting to try fried crickets ever since hearing that, at the time, the most popular stadium snack in America was fried sour cream & onion crickets. By all accounts I've seen from people who tried them, they taste basically identical to Pringles but more crunchy.

Indeed, they'll take on the flavor of whatever you add to them just like potato chips. Otherwise, it's just a different crunchy texture.

Had these in a queso Blanco before, pretty damn good.

Also had a few different ant moles and they were all pretty flavorful stuff

Might steal this if I ever get around to eating bugs

Had them crushed up on an elevated take on Mexican street corn in CDMX. Tasty.

Not sure I could handle them whole.

haha I remember going to Mexican restaurants as a kid in Texas and thinking it was a fancy place if they served food in a molcajete 😅 they're pretty common in Mexico... this is bar food at a place in Coyoacan

[-] Lumidaub@feddit.org 8 points 6 days ago

I mean the food specifically. I'd get all my protein from insects if it was affordable.

Molcajete, dol sot... If it comes in a hot bowl it is fancy.

Good news: it's not!

[-] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I'll eat anything once, especially if it's good enough to have been around longer than I've been alive.

But there are some things, I'll always try again. Like menudo. Mmmm... menudo. 🤤

Well done! :D
