Today on the news: Sony is a shitty company. Wait wasn't that yesterdays article?

[-] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago

Apple: where is the line? -sees sony- anywhere behind that, got it.

Lemmy: the Gabe cube is too expensive and performance sucks ass

All gaming companies: let's shoot ourselves in the foot in multitudes

Gabe: here we go emptying wallets again

I'd rather pay $1000 for the machine to play my games on than pay $1000 per game. 🤷‍♂️

Eventually everyone will get pushed back to Solitaire, Monopoly or Risk. They'll soon discover that it's way more engaging and fulfilling than the enshittified tech crap they try to pass off as entertainment nowadays.

Me and wife been playing Domino's two nights in a row and having a grand time. I even mention that no matter what those shitty companies can't take all types of gaming away.

These consoles are truly just racing each other to the bottom. It's actually impressive how dumb these decisions are in both quantity and quality.

Targetted exploitation.

Remember when Sony was massively successful by delivering what gamers want?

[-] 0li0li@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago

Not really, when was that?

PS3... But at the last few years era ("It only does everything" era)

They absolutely cooked with exclusives that people wanted

[-] 0li0li@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

I see, just before I got my first and only PS product, a PS3, cause money was too tight for a pc back then. Damn, I missed the golden years of PS!? :(

(EDIT: Oh no, that's not true, I have a used DS5 controller next to me lol)

[-] callouscomic@lemmy.zip 2 points 8 hours ago

Looool, money was too tight, so the overpriced PS3 was the answer. Too funny. Thanks for the laugh.

[-] 0li0li@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Well, the be fair, I got it (barely) used so it beat buillding my own PC at the time, but you are right, if you know what you're doing and count the price of games, PC is a no brainer!

[-] thatOneGuy@aussie.zone 11 points 17 hours ago

I mean, I personally view the start of the PS3 era as part of that same golden period - but it was also the time when we began to see the beginnings of enshitification also:

  • Day 1 patches
  • Day 1 “on disc DLC”
  • Microtransactions
  • $10 “online pass” for 2nd hand games

The launch PS3 was probably the peak of Somy giving the customers what they wanted; full hardware backwards compatibility with PS1/PS2 titles, affordable Blu-Ray player, built-in and upgradable HDD, heap of standardised IO options.

It’s just been all downhill from there.

[-] vrighter@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 10 hours ago

Allowing updates is what made everything go to shit, imo. It should be like older consoles. Whatever you stamped on the disc is what you will be releasing. End of story. Shipping broken (or literally nothing at all, in some cases) is now the standard. Yes games are complex.... they always were. if you could fix them after release, you can also fix them before. It's just greed that keeps one from doing so.

Fuck digital distribution on consoles, fuck dlc, fuck updates. They ruined a lot of things.

When they take away your options, it’s a sign of tyranny.
