Sometimes it wears a bowtie.

I wonder if these are simply regular off-brand/store brand alternatives, like one would expect in any country, or if they are a "make our own version of foreign products in response to sanctions or boycotts by the supplying company" type thing. If the later, it'd be ironic for fanta given that that brand was founded under the same kind of circumstances, as a ww2 German alternative to coca cola.

Like how many Dr. Pepper knockoffs there are with and without college educations, like Dr. Thunder and Mr. Pibb?

Pretty much. Ive personally seen "Dr. Thirsty" and "Dr. Percky" as well.

This reminded me of Cheerwine. I think Dr. Thunder Cherry was pretty similar to it too if I remember. I preferred both over Dr. Pepper growing up. But maybe that was because it was cheaper. I haven't had Cheerwine in forever; but I remember it being pretty bomb.

I'm a Tarheel, Cheerwine is near and dear to me. I don't live far from the bottling plant. Used to be, you wouldn't see it far outside the Carolinas, now it's shipped internationally.

Makes sense. I grew up in Atlanta. Think it was in basically every grocery store. I haven't seen it on the West Coast where I live now though. Miss it.

it’s so sweet

Of course off-brand options were always there. But 2022 has seen the rise of many more, as the local brands struggled to fill the vacuum. I have not seen this one in particular before 2022, but yes, it got relatively popular after.

This is just one of the alternatives. Other brands make it too. For all I know, the official factories are taken by Добрый brand (ironically, it translates as "good, kind"), and there's like a dozen other brands out there.

Cola specifically is the most demanded, and most produced by pretty much every soda company. AND, Russia does have the original Coca Cola/Pepsi/Fanta/Sprite imported through the Middle East/Belarus.

If you ask me, Добрый is the best one, even better than the original. The one on the pic is very mid. But that's my taste.

All are equally disgusting. Sugar water is nasty.

Aside from the added vodka, it's pretty much the same

the added vodka

Talk about burying the lead.

If you get the right one there's polonium in it.

The street soda gives me !sbubby@lemmy.world vibes. It even looks somewhat like the Subway branding...

russia: death to the west! we reject their way of life!

Also russia:

I hate that I feel that I have to explain that the CCCP ended in 1991 on Lemmy.

[-] fake@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

Doesn't change the fact there are widely held negative views of the west among russians. At the same time they seem quite keen to emulate it shrug

[-] mastertigurius@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Oh-hohoh, you think it ended? The embers have been lying there since then, glowing with rage. There's still plenty of people left in the generation that benefited most from power and corruption in the CCCP.

let's just say the ruling party's political agenda and propaganda don't really correlate with average Ivan's views, especially amongst the younger demographic.

But yeah, this is funny.

Street soda for Sprite.

“Sprite! How did we become the Black soda? We don’t know. Sprite!” For context: https://youtu.be/hzMzFGgmQOc, time ~4:50 for relevant part, but love this skit.
