This is probably not correct, and seal team six would likely have much higher risk trying to go I to Russia, and neither AL queda nor venuxela have nukes.
I'm not convinced this ends with Putin though. Yes, there's a chance the next guy in line will want to pull out, blame Putin for all the shortcomings, and act like this shit never happened. But that's not the Russian way. The Russian way is fuck all the poor people, let's start a war that is surely going to help us domestically. This could still mean pulling out of Ukraine, but then invading some other more defenceless country, just to show that Russia is still powerfull and manly.
So no, I'm not convinced cutting the head off the snake is really the solution.

Deisel is a resource used globally. The US doesn't have to be purchasing Russian oil for Russian supplies to impact oil prices in the US.
It's also why the whole argument about drilling in the US to make oil cheaper falls apart. Oil from Venezuala, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Texas, Trinidad, Abu Dhabi, or Alaska all end up in the same international commodity markets.
