I'm using lunar client and its pretty decent but im kinda worried about data collection. It's probably not horrible but still, i want to be pretty sure that it doesn't collect any data, or atleast not a lot. I want something like lunar just more private and maybe foss as well? Also it needs to work on linux

thank guy

prism for legal, polymc for cracked

Prism launcher has been mentioned already, but it feels important to mention that to disable the built in telemetry inside of minecraft (assuming you are playing on a newer version), you need a mod

[-] goofsqueak@lemdro.id 3 points 22 hours ago

already installed it, isn't it called like "no telemetry" or something on modrinth?

[-] lepton64@lemmy.ml 1 points 17 hours ago

Prism Launcher is what I use, but also install the No Telemetry Fabric mod to reduce/disable telemetry in game (severs can still track you though)

As others have pointed out, Prism Launcher is the way. Keep in mind that Microsoft will still harvest all the metadata they can from your account if you're using a genuine license.

Prism Launcher is open source and Linux compatible, just make sure any mods you get through it don't collect any data.

ooo i'll take a look thanks

edit: i also use lunar to play with my friends, but i will be getting a mini pc with linux on it as a streaming box, so maybe i can host a server or something

edit 2: forgor that mojang added friends to java yay

edit 3: didn't know that multiplayer isn't available yet, fixed with a mod called "friendmod" (im scared of essential mod's privacy policy)

I second prism launcher, it's foss has lots of functionalities and works perfectly on Linux

I am happy I found this a few month ago too and Prism Launcher is simply good. And installed as flatpak gives you some sandboxing too.

Is it a hard requirement that it is exactly minecraft? Have you tried Luanti?

[-] goofsqueak@lemdro.id 3 points 23 hours ago

This.

Please consider supporting anyone but Microsoft. Theres Luanti, but I would also highly recommend Vintage Story, its made by ex Minecraft modders who decided to build a better engine.

[-] orvorn@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 day ago

+1 for Vintage Story, it's Minecraft for adults!

Does lunati have a launcher of similar quality to prism? (modding wise)

[-] bneu@feddit.org 7 points 1 day ago

Can you recommend any game or mod combination on Luanti? I have played a bit in some games, but always lost interest after half an hour.

[-] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah, it looks interesting, but I couldn't find any good info on a solid base pack of mods, and I don't really want to spend a bunch of time trying to figure out how to make it good.

I saw some videos on youtube recently that basically said lunar client steals all your data, so you should switch to prism or smth and just download the pvp mods with the prism clients mod management

OK so not exactly what OP asked, but if you might like a 2D minecraft-like, check out Terraria. Fun, and plays fine with no network access. So zero potential for data collection. Has native linux version.

[-] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 23 hours ago

Minecraft also plays fine with no network access and Terraria isnt similar to minecraft

[-] goofsqueak@lemdro.id 1 points 23 hours ago

terraria is intersting, but i'm asking for a minecraft launcher, sorry

[-] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Terraria isn't really much like Minecraft, just because it has blocks. Luanti/VoxelLibre is closest, but sometimes you need actual Minecraft to play with friends who have Minecraft, or if you want specific features in the game
