☞ Today is Mexico’s Independence Day. The Mexican War of Independence against the Spanish Empire began on this day in 1810 with the Grito de Dolores (Cry of Dolores) by the Roman Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, who rang the bell of his church in Dolores Hidalgo to give the call to arms.
