Wouldnt it technically be the other way around, what with the humans (Neil's character in particular) analagous to nazis?

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 8 points 11 hours ago

Trump is a monster... the monster is afraid of our actions

That was enough of an analogy for me hehehe

[-] Montagge@lemmy.zip 4 points 10 hours ago

The whole point of Starship Troopers is that humans are monsters

I think you are over thinking it but it's been a long while since I saw it

[-] Zorque@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

I mean, I was mostly just calling Trump and his ilk nazis, not necessarily saying it wasn't funny.

Things can have multiple meanings.

No, it's a movie based off of a book of the same name

Hostile to whom? Both Canada and the EU seem to be mutually friendly.

Hostile to Trump's pitifully fragile ego.

He likes to throw threats around because his dementia makes him believe that if he says something and looks "threatening" enough everyone will obey but... what he's failing to realise he is the American version of the Roman emperor Nero and soon after the empire fell and even though he is "in charge" of one of the most powerful countries in the world he doesn't really have the power he believes he has.

They need to offer it to Mexico too, just to really piss off Trump.

Then we can start referring to North America as "Western Europe". Just need someone to keep him distracted with a map and a sharpie

Especially because it'll divide the "patriots" from the white supremacists who want to be called "Western Europeans" for skin color and not European progressive policy.

Like, it's not hard to make a bunch of idiots start fighting each other.

When you start being a b**** to everyone around you, eventually people start walking.

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 17 points 14 hours ago

This rhetoric seems familiar somehow...

[-] Tango@piefed.ca 4 points 14 hours ago

Yes, that is certainly a worry. But I have confidence that the EU and Canada have factored that possible reaction into their calculations and prepared accordingly.

[-] Frenchgeek@lemmy.ml 3 points 13 hours ago

We're keeping a hand free to point and laugh anytime, yes.

[-] Flower@sh.itjust.works 7 points 13 hours ago

Trump threatens when you're friendly and cooperative with him. He threatens when you walk away. At this point it's just background noise.

It’s Kim Jon Un’s lil brother Donald Jon Trump

Trump wants to annex Canada. In his delusions he thought he could force it to happen by applying economic pressure despite everyone expect his inner circle of sycophants told him. Now that he's realizing that it's not going to happen he's throwing a tantrum.

[-] tirateimas@lemmy.pt 5 points 13 hours ago

People, just ignore Trump. There is a whole world to do business in/with.

[-] ryper@lemmy.ca 4 points 13 hours ago

The quoted 'hostile' in the headline seems like it should be part of what Trump said, but the article doesn't include any quote like that. This is all the Trump quotes it's got:

US President Donald Trump has threatened to cut trade with the EU or impose "very serious tariffs" after the bloc proposed to make Canada its first ever "associate member".

He called the prospect of Canada joining the EU “laughable” and called Canada a “terrible trade partner".

“If it’s a good intention, that’s fine. If it’s a bad intention, we’ll put very heavy tariffs on Europe,” Trump said.

Big talk from President Donald Mexico.

[-] Tiral@lemmy.world -1 points 8 hours ago

He's gonna put them on double secret probation.

Really though, I can't wait to see what happens if Alberta leaves Canada, if they do Canada is so fucked.

[-] radish6367@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 hours ago

Hopefully that Florida based company pumping out Alberta separatist propaganda isn’t successful.

It's be way shittier for Alberta than it would be for Canada...
