TNG s4e22 "Half a Life"
Said in roughly the same tone as Picard saying to tell starfleet "we have engaged the Borg"
And with the same sentiment…

That episode is so sad. It's an incredible episode, but so sad
Took me a while to get back to it myself. Well acted, showcases the brilliance/depth of Lwaxana's character, and points out another example of the Prime Directive's inability to do what should be considered the right thing.
To that, we should never forget "Dark Page" S7E7. Her airy and seemingly careless attitude takes a different tone once you know that she's using it as armor for a very deep wound she desperately tries to never acknowledge.
My wife and I have long had a love for taking each other through our favorite TV series. Some time ago she took me through all of Friends, a show I'd never watched back when it was on but she was way into, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I'm currently taking her through the TNG box set, she never watched any Trek before we got together but she's having a good time with it.
This lengthy setup leads to the other day, when we watched "Cost of Living" and she informed me of a comparison she'd just realized: Lwaxana is TNG's Janice from Friends. I have to admit she has a point, and if you know you know.
