Bob, here we are at the world famous tram driver can competition! Yes Bob! And here comes our first if contestant! It Jeff! Jeff Windston! He has a famous sitting posture that rattles everyone's tickle bones Bob! Why yes! Bob! But here comes James Carbanger he's gonna do the sitting politely move! Look at him judging the rails off at a distance! Bob, have you ever seen such devotion to perfecting a driving posture Bob? Yes, it is incredible indeed! Indeed Bob! Trully remarkable Bob! Now here comes the first set I'd green lights! Jeff, with a winners pose certainly places his handon the accelerator lever with admirable skill! James is catching up with a double tapititaptap on the dashboard! What a recovery! The kids are going wild imitating the fun tapping on the window. But say Bob? What budwiser beer could ever be best for driving trams? Why Budweiser ofcourse! Let's go for some commercials and then come back to the exciting conclusion as the drivers clean the steering wheel with their most awaited hankerchief moves.

Last year it was even a worldwide competition, not just European.

I was there (it happened in the city I live in), but would probably have seen more if I'd watched a livestream, it wasn't easy to see very much due to the crowds.
As an American, we don't have trams so I am confused. Don't they run on tracks like trains? How do you compete against others? Not like you can take a wrong turn.

Yup. And Australia sends a team called the Melbourne Tramaroos.
Who came second-last this year, suggesting that standards of competitive tramsmanship are higher in Europe.
Given that Australia has a number of cities with (new or rebuilt) tramways, perhaps they should have a national competition between them to hone their talent and be better able to hold their own against the Europeans.
It's more that Australian trams are different to Euro trams, they weight about twice as much
