@silence7 “The economic ministry keeps sabotaging the transition away from fossil fuels,”

[-] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 8 points 1 week ago

No, ignore that. Just look at the plan we made!

There is no plan on implementation from the government. It is just a meaningless pledge. In fact, they are about to subsidize fossil fuel consumption for the second time this year.

Awesome!
I didn't see anything about including retrofitting old stuff; Is it only on new equipment?

How do you even make renewable energy infrastructure with only renewable energy input? It only works for draft animals and biofuels.

That's just an initial boot strap problem.

A solar panel factory can be powered by solar panels, once you get it stood up. Repeat for everything else.

You think? Look at all the steps required. And I do mean all the steps. Do the research. I guarantee you a surprise.

Nobody who says "do the research", has done the research.
If they had, they would explain the research they've done.

Is that your research?

I hope they will keep their promise.

Both the federal and provincial governments where I live had plans to ban the sale of gas powered vehicles by 2035. They kept this policy for a few years but both scrapped it recently.

My province initially made it a law that 100% of cars sold by 2035 should be electric. It's now 90%.

So, as much as the current German government can say it plans to do this by 2045, there's more than enough time to have another government that will scrap this policy. And their plan is even more ambitious.

I hope they will continue in the long term with this policy, but the cynical in me is doubting.

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:
