I was watching an interview with Reece Barclay recently (youtube link here if anyone was curious) and he made an offhand comment that most people could win their age group with about 10-15 hours of weekly training time over the course of a year. They were speaking in generalities, so I think he meant that it would apply to 5k's, half marathons, and even many triathlons.

Breaking it down, that's about 90-120 minutes per weekday, and then a block of 5-7 hours over the weekend. How do those numbers compare to what you do? Was it enough to win (or at least podium) your age group for your latest race? How many hours do you think ARE required to finish at the top of your group?
